In 1905, approximately one thousand Korean migrant workers boarded a ship to Mexico with a promise for a bright future, only to be sold into indentured servitude when they arrived. What happened to those Koreans and where are their descendants today?

Thank you for sharing this. It’s crazy that people are just barely finding out that Mexico has a large Korean community because of TikTok. But there’s been a Korean presence in Mexico for about 100 years.

I'm pretty sure Gabi Kook's (yeong-guk namja's wife) dad lives in Mexico, I don't remember the reason why, and her parents are still technically married, and have an ok relationship though her mom now lives in Korea, Gabi herself was born in Argentina and raised in Spain, so Spanish is technically her first language.

I’m surprised this isn’t considered part of the coolie trade. As it’s similar to Indian and Chinese being brought with the promise of jobs. But many became indentured servitude or straight up slaves in some parts of the continent. The influences of Indian in Caribbean cuisine and culture. And Chinese in Guyana, Peru, and Suriname is underrated
