@@LordDaret Yeah if you don't desire at least some form of power how can you rule? Rulers like that lead to bad times. Corruption of the lower nobility with weak kings. Look to the Empire for the opposite of that. Strong ruler goes extreme and does what Ainz does but on a different level. Kills a bunch of people and consolidates his power over the rest of the nobility and the country.

I'm just sitting there like why are we cheering for the baddies!? Then that plot twist with the princess comes in and my first thoughts are there is zero chance that a coherent narrative becomes of that. And so far there has been no progress on the backstory of the series either. So are there scenes missing from the Manga or did the anime cut at the wrong spot?

When the cowardly nobles rode up to present Zanec's head to Ainz, he was sitting on his throne trying to figure out a way to minimize the loss of life in the Kingdom without appearing weak in front of his Guardians. Zanec had convinced him that there was no need for unnecessary suffering, but Ainz is TERRIFIED of the Guardians learning that he isn't as all-knowing and all-powerful as they see him and abandoning him entirely, leaving him alone in the world. That whole plan went out the window with the act of treachery. It led him to believe that the Kingdom was entirely beyond saving and that a purge was the only right course of action.
@johnkonig865
@johnkonig865 Жыл бұрын
Mate, I'm pretty sure by the time the armies met literally millions were already dead, Ainz only promised to minimise the suffering, and if I remember it correctly, only grudgingly agreed to a secret petition of the good aligned NPCs such as Sebas that asked he spare a few more than just the collaborators and their subjects. As far as I understood it, Ainz genuinely believes it's a good way of showing the world his power and what happens when you cross him, which is fucking retarded since most humans are super weak by New World standards, and most nations wouldn't give a fuck, but that's pretty much in line for his character.
@Dracon350
@Dracon350 Жыл бұрын
@@johnkonig865 oh it is most certainly an overstatement of his power, and completely unnecessary, but that's not the issue. Ainz can no longer feel empathy for the average being. he has to have gotten on well with a person in order to feel any sort of compassion for them. coupled this with his actual real fear of losing those who he has left and it leads to him seceding to plots that he wouldn't have otherwise even gave a single thought to. Ainz literally only agreed to the obliteration of the entire kingdom because that's what the floor guardians thought he was thinking. during their meeting after the attack on their caravan, he was bewildered at the conclusions the guardians came to concerning his "plans". i agree that his motivation for pursuing such a slaughter wasn't for his own gain, but simply because it was what the floor guardians thought he'd want. Ainz is stumbling through being an Overlord. he handles internal politics and matters concerning Nazerick itself, but beyond season 1 and 2, most of the plans that come up are plans thought up by the floor guardians themselves. he feels like he has to continue to put on this charade to stay atop the pedestal that all followers of Nazerick have put him upon. as for the act itself, it most certainly was a good way to showcase his power, if WAY too excessive, but the whole spiel was meant to be a message to every other political body that any attempt to bring harm to the Sorcerer Kingdom would end in ruin. there would be no surrender, there would be no mercy, only rubble and corpses. i don't see how nations couldn't care when a threat such as Ainz shows up, takes out an entire army with one spell, defeats both the Kingdom's and Empire's best warriors effortlessly, and proceeds to casually destroy the entire royal capital in under a day.

The betrayal by those nobles is one of the most stupid and despicable actions you'll find in any series. Even though Zanac was unable to get Ainz to accept their surrender he won something that nobody else could've. He earned Ainz's respect and as a reward Ainz promised that he would give them all gentle and painless deaths which was better than nothing. But because they betrayed them not only did the nobles suffer a fate worse than death, most of the remainder of the kingdom died painful and brutal deaths. They should've just died honorably on the battlefield because, at the very least, it would've ended quick and painless

He never actually changed - being a stereotypical cowardly snob was all an act in order to prevent conflict over succession by convincing his older brother that he wasn't a threat. Aside from his father, he was the only one who actually cared about the Kingdom. Unfortunately, when his older brother died he had to drop the act and step up. He knew that Renner was also putting on an act as a naive princess and was actually smarter than literally everyone else in the Kingdom. In fact if Renner had any humanity, he would have gladly ceded the right to the throne to her. As such, he had to change strategies and lacked enough political power to depose his father when the Kingdom needed him to. By the time he was able to do so, the Kingdom's fate was already sealed. Arguably, if the King had heeded his advice and handed over Philip to the Sorcerer Kingdom immediately without even waiting for a response, they might have resolved the situation before Demiurge had a chance to come up with his plan.

I think the point of this part of the story is that people value different things. I assume you noticed by now the word "Betrayal" is quite nuanced. Ains admires principles. Gazef, Zanack, Unglaus, Ranposa, Renner, Raevan, Blue Rose have principles. Yes Renner too because in her mind she had never belonged to the Kingdom. She offered her allegience to Nazerick to achieve what she wanted. She's loyal to that. Raevan is loyal to his son. Blue Rose follows Lakyus because they are friends. Gazef followed Ranposa to the end. Zanack is loyal to the Kingdom. A little too loyal because he stayed despite watching Ranposa push the Kingdom to destruction because of his loyalty to Gazef. Ains even respected Neia Baraja's loyalty even though she made him uncomfortable. In a sense his anger at Zanack's death mirrors that of his anger at the Swords of Darkness's demise at the hands of Clementine. The Swords of Darkness were loyal to each other (it reminded him of his own loyalty to his old companions) while Clementine was loyal to noone except herself. Yeah those Nobles are screwed. Maybe not more than Phillip. But close enough. People are going to become toothpaste tubes.

Keep in mind, the Slane Theocracy was 100% okay with Ainz destroying the Kingdom since they were basically trying to do that anyway. The reason for that is because, unlike the Empire, they considered it a failed state and a waste space. It was being run by the 8 Fingers in all but name, the nobility and most of the leadership were blatantly corrupt, they scorned magic and completely ignored its potential leaving them open for someone like Ainz to show up etc. Basically the Kingdom's only redeeming qualities were the handfull of strong individuals like Gazef,Brain and Lachius as well as the Royal Family. You forgot that if Ainz were not isekai-ed into this world, Zanac probably would not be king. His older brother would be king first. Of course, there might be a civil war between Zanac and his older brother as both of them having support of separate nobles. Since the death of the crown prince by the hands of one of Ainz's battle maids, Zanac's path to become king was made easier. Without Ainz, I think Renner wouldn't betray the country so easily because she needed a powerful backing if she were to betray. Since Ainz was the powerful backer that she needed, she just betray the country. The corruption of the nobles, especially headed by the crime syndicate '8 Fingers', would be very difficult to get rid of as their influence had gained so much momentum throughout the years. Getting rid of them could take a very long time. Nazarick may have taken over '8 Fingers', but Ainz made it easier to get rid of the nobles by destroying the kingdom.

So far Zanac is the one of the only humans in this new world that Ainz grieved over. Except this wasn't the sob-in-your-room grief, it was I'm-super-angry-and-this-seals-your-fate grief. Edit: Yes, he mourned Gazef and even respected his wish to remain dead, but it was a duel of honor and an intended consequence. The reason why he actually is a brilliant leader is because int intelligence stat from his Yggdrasil character is subtly effecting his actual intellect without him realizing it. Kind of like how his emotions are suppressed because of his racial trait of being undead but he doesn’t really register that either. So he actually is a brilliant leader, it’s just internally he doesn’t know he is a brilliant leader, there by all the “accidental brilliant plans” he comes up with while he thinks he’s just getting lucky coincidences it’s actually his intellect statistic from his in game character that is causing him to make the decisions that turn out to be brilliant. In short he every bit the brilliant ruler his NOC’s believe him to be, just doesn’t realize that fact.

The treasure raid in season 3 is the worst moment for me. Between those guys that became living food for insects. And that girl that was just trying to make money sorry younger sibling could survive just to end up with her body being given to an insect girl for parts... I will never like the main character after that Ark The only thing I want to see in this series is ainz oal gown. Get what he deserves

Yup, I didn’t like Zanac as a person. I doubt he would’ve been a very good king. Just like mid tier. But he was dedicated to say the least, had his ego but it wasn’t out of check, like he definitely was going to keep things moving in the kingdom if he had the chance. Although the real brain would always be his sister.. So I was surprised when I was kind of sad that he got betrayed.

Did you mention the nobles families were also "spared" the same way.... They totally messed up everything for everyone around them!

That you decide to put the blame for their suffering on the people being tortured instead of the one ordering the torture is pretty crazy, mate.

@@johnkonig865 They decided to betray the person that they were pledged to obey/serve... Then they tried to join the enemies side... (I do think Ainz choice to wipe out everyone was several giant leaps to far.) Them getting exactly what Ainz promised them was to me just fine... But I was mentioning that their choices, condemned their families as well... If they had entered the battle, they would have died a much swifter and more humane way... Ainz 100% put them in a situation that they would be killed under... They put their families into the torture though, threw their own choices. I love spouting about fictional things on the interwebs! :P

What stopped Ains from Rezzing Zanac? He promised adventurers that he could offer that service in exchange for loyalty. That is what happened during the Arena battle. I can only think of it as if Ains would respect another person's right to die.

you lose levels when you die and get ressurected and even then you cannot be properly functional for quite a while Zanac is way too low level to be ressed

Worth noting this is the first and only noble Ainz actually genuinely respected from just a short conversation…and then he’s immediately killed by his own people…I’m sure a part of him was like “I will avenge you”

I remember on the book not even his passive emotion suppression was strong enough to manage how incredibly furious he was, on the book also explains a bit more how he truly respected Zannac and the scene of the head happens while he had this in mind. Alongside that other hero, he one one of the very few humans that he cared about.

Zanic's own betrayal was felt the worse as everything was proceeding as expected. Ainz got most of the competent people out of the kingdom he wanted out of the kingdom. Even then we know how Ainz can be towards those he respect where there was a wild hope or chance that he could have brought Zanic back from the dead or something. Instead what we got was not a fight, not a battle or not some greater moment. We got a bunch of cowards stabbing him in the back and handing him over right away even after their king offered up his own head to stop the war and failed. It was that betrayal that certainly sealed the kingdom's fate and showed that perhaps while Zanic was a flawed man, but a good one... The kingdom he was in was not worthy of him.

So... if you had these two options in front of you: 01. Fight and have a ZERO percent chance of winning. If you lose you and all you care for will be brutally murdered. or: 02. Sacrifice one person and try to use diplomacy to save your loved ones. Then you would choose to... not even try to save your family? you would choose the "honorable" thing? Because your honur means more to you than your family?

1) if they had no idea who he was then they knew he was undead who despise the living. That is the equivalent of walking up to Tolkien Orcs and hoping that giving up your brother won't also end with you getting murdered and eaten yourself. There is a reason why some people.sought to commit suicide rather than surrender to the orcs. 2) If you do know who he is... Then you know that he has a sense of honor and does not care about someone else offering someone else's head up as an offering. The king tried and they didn't care. I wouldn't betray the prince because it was honorable... I would have tried fleeing before the undead had arrived or maybe if I was desperate I might have tried a fast acting poison. If you do not know him then all you know is that he is undead and everyone knows why that is a bad thing. If you do know him then you know why this is a bad thing... If anything... Finding the idiot who started this war and offering up his head would give you better odds.

It seems like each of the areas that Ainz put a ruler over like lupusregina they had a right hand person like enri and if they treated Ainz in a respectful manner like the lizard men sure cocytus killed a lot but since they showed Ainz something valuable about them and if they followed zanac's lead zanac would probably been made a sub ruler and some of the re estize would probably be spared

I take it this was a homage to ROME with Caesar being presented the head of Pompei and yelling "HE WAS A CONSUL OF ROME!" Because to me this it also looks more like they just killed Arch Duke Ferdinand and his wife Sofia but also took selfies

The thing with Renner is, while what she did was overkill - she also did it because of bretrayal to her. Multiple time people give their word to her or Climb that Renner can marry Climb. The whole kingdom could have maybe been saved if people had kept their promises.

You would mostly think of that guy as a random npc who is just destiend to day, probably a whelp who would sell his soul for a bag of beans. But guy knew that his kingdom was doomed, he knew that they would all die but he tried at very least that they died swift and painless death's and irony is that they were denied both.
