The moment she started crying about the lottery tickets I really got how bad her home life is. Every time things get crazy bad she goes out and buys some hope. She knows she probably won't win, but in that moment between buying the ticket and seeing the result she gets to dream of an escape. It's heartbreaking.

I love when Caleb tells someone it's okay to cry, it makes sense to cry, they have a good reason to cry - shame is such a huge part of why people can't get out of bad financial situations and allowing these people to come on here and confront their past mistakes without sugar coating things, but while also allowing them the space to grieve and face their shame while giving them hope for a better future is HUGE. It's such a delicate and careful line to walk and somehow Caleb does it every time. King shit.

She doesn’t know her value. She’s working a job at age 27 (with a college degree) that’s pulling in less per hour than working at most fast food resturants. She seems like a lovely young lady, but has absolutely no financial maturity. Unless she substantially increases her income, personal bankruptcy may be her only option.

This was so rough to watch. I know SEVERAL people with a really awful situation this and I can just see the pain and struggle in her eyes. There are so many heartbreaking hints like the lottery tickets, the "bad for mental health" home situation, the nearly decade-long college attendance, "I don't know if I should have come on here", etc. My heart goes out to her, and frankly I wonder if this one should be taken down or made private because financial problems are likely the least of her worries. She just needs a win in general.

I wonder about her content writing abilities. She struggled early on to explain how she ended up in such car debt trouble. She had a bad car accident while in a work vehicle. It shook her up enough to quit her job. Spent some time living with no plan and was outside of the US. She was deciding on the spot what she is willing to share online about so many topics. This basically guarantees she is going to admit more than she wanted to, and expend more energy that needed during the audit.

@T O - I agree wholeheartedly that she is going through a heavy time. Her willingness to seek advice is her first step in bettering her situation in life. It will take her willingness to continue taking each step with strength and accountability. From one human being to another, I wish her the best as well. How does one eat an elephant? The answer is one bite at a time. At the same time, remembering to chew each and every bite taken. It's like through hiking the Appalachian Trail. With that first step and every step at a time thereafter from beginning to end. It is possible. She can do it if she really wants to and if she does everything in her power to achieve it.

When I talked to a therapist, he told me to pack a bag and get out that night. It was life saving advice. Just because no one it hitting you, doesn't mean you are safe. No, I couldn't afford to move, but I'm glad I did anyway. With really bad living conditions, you are forever exhausted. There isn't any energy left for a second or third job. Please, please move out. @Trina - I disagree. She even said that her mom wouldn't make her pay rent when they brought up food cost. I think the only problem is that it affects her love life. I do believe there's a freedom issue that she's experiencing. But it probably has something to do with the things that she's allowed to do under the roof of her parents. They probably don't want a boyfriend spending the night in their home, sort of thing. They may not approve of him. Maybe they don't like the way he treats her. When you live in somebody else's house, you can not expect to have the freedom that you want or even compare it to having the freedom of your own place. You can't live freely as a 27 year old in your parents' house. I mean, she can't bang her boyfriend on the couch in the living room because it's her parents' house. Plus, you don't know how far her boyfriend is even pushing her. He lives 200 miles away from her and her parents. Her parents probably don't let him spend the night, so that might play a little bit of havoc on her trying to maintain a relationship with a man. Their house, their rules.

All while trying to hold back what is making you upset, which is what victims do. Just because her parents let her stay for free doesn't automatically mean they aren't abusive. In fact that could literally be a tool of their abuse, so they can hold it over her head and make her feel like shit. You seem to have a very misguided understanding of abuse, and what it looks like. I was in the same situation years ago. It took me 5 years to get out by myself. No help. I didn’t get to move out until I was 32. I’m 34 now. There is a light at the end if you want it.

I appreciate how you take into account how mental health / life stress can play into these situations & encourage people to deal with that right away instead of putting it off until they are out of debt even if there is a cost.

This poor girl has a tough situation. Although some of its self inflicted due to poor planning. A few thoughts: 1) Her current ad agency is taking advantage of her junior experience level. If she needed the experience, maybe just stick with it for one year and get out. Meanwhile, she should get a part time job outside of a 30 hours work week to write more content or just any jobs to increase her monthly income.

The lack of empathy and understanding towards someone clearly suffering and is fragile in the comment section is deeply sad. Clearly all of the people criticising her would be extremely articulate and polished if they were in her position 🙄 so easy to criticise from your smart phone.

@@andrewparry7300 agree - she needs to learn to trust herself, know that it's ok to make a mistake and that she has the resilience to bounce back. I'm guessing that when well intentioned people tell her to buck up! and go for it! it scares her even more. Mental health support would do her a lot of good.

I feel for her. I was living with my dad for a long time (long past the age of it being socially acceptable) bc I couldn’t afford to move out. I always had a job or more than 1 job but i was so depressed I’d spend money to cope. Also all of my friends were mooches which didn’t help. The cost of living where i live is insanity. (1725 for a 325 sq ft studio) and no, it’s not a major city where you’d assume it’d be that high. He was very psychologically, emotionally, and verbally abusive so I see her pain in her face. It’s a nasty rut that’s hard to get out of especially when you’re struggling with your mental health but you have to refocus & keep the goal in the back of your mind. I stopped leaving the house when I wasn’t working so I wouldn’t spend any money and just stayed in my room and saved as much as possible. Leaving the house = spending money. At least for me, so when you never want to be home you’re basically just spending money daily. I did extensive research on mental health, abuse and toxic family structures during this time which really helped. I don’t know her situation and hoping she at least has her own room where she can have a safe space while she saves up.
