I was Tony’s Jiujitsu Coach at Hostility MMA. I cornered him for the fight against Karen Darembedian . And yes he had locked on just about every submission out there! I was literally talking to Tony while being in a inverted heel hook, knee bars, toe holds , candy canes ankle locks. He got out of all of them .! Last minute of fight Tonywas beating on him.

Not sure if it was total fighting alliance .. but there was a fight where Tony was way way smaller than opponent and the guy threw Tony with a great judo throw and Tony landed on his head… seeing stars and stuck upside down and later judo side control .. luckily the bell sounded. With everything numb he managed to TKO the guy . Might’ve been at Thousand Oaks or Ventura.

The thing is that Tony never accepted help. He said he would see a doctor in front of police and when his wife drove him there he jumped out of the moving car on the freaking highway and ran away. Just see how he reacts when asked about seeking mental health. He doesn't even accept the fact he COULD need help. Tony has severe problems, like the police reports and statements from his wife clearly show severe mental illness. The UFC should have never allowed to fight him again after UFC 209. It's shameful and disgusting. I don't watch any of his fights anymore out of love for him..

Tony’s story is inspirational and heartbreaking. After that freak injury, he wasn’t the same he got depressed and mentally he was going through a lot. By that time, he was experiencing psychosis and his mind was out of control and suffering mental breakdowns, hands down to his wife that was always supporting him. This is proof that mentality plays the most important role on this sport. He still a legend, a guy that once was the scariest guy and Kahbib’s biggest threat. I remember that Anthony Pettis fight. When he took that fight 4 months post tearing his LCL, and was able to fight at his ability, I knew he was a gifted man with a built different mentality. Prime wise, this man would have given Khabib the most trouble - there’s no doubt in my mind. I knew that his last chance to fight Khabib was during covid times and when I found out he was fighting Justin Gaijthe at 36 while doing an extra weight cut, that was probably going to be his downfall. At this point, tony was way past his prime, had mental health issues after the Pettis fight, and didn’t fight the same way against Cowboy. The CTE was definitely taking its toll after the Pettis fight given his psychological issues. It was honestly hard to watch - I wish this man had a better management team.

My grandfather told me he feels younger than he actually is and things he used to do he can no longer do. But his brain still thinks like he can do things that his body can't do anymore. His brain tells him he's still fast and still got it even tho he lost it so long ago. Tony are one of those people that just keep themselves going. And as they get older their brain says they still got it. So he's got something to prove to himself. And even tho he loses and watches it back his brain still tells him he's still got it. There should be something to admire in his will to not give up. They think about leaving a legacy to be remembered but i think as we grow older its hard to stop what you've been doing for so long. And not giving up win or lose becomes the goal rather than leaving a legacy. Its like you wanna leave a legacy but yet you cant actually leave once you've made it

Tony Ferguson is and was one of the most incredibly talented fighter the UFC has had to date.... Tony, did everything an athlete at his level is supposed to do, to get all that he had coming to him except one thing. The UFC and Dana did not want Tony representing the UFC, because of Tony's, at times bizarre comment's and odd behavior. That's it....NOTHING ELSE... For that reason Tony was given the toughest run around road the sport has ever seen. Tony missed out in tens of millions of dollars. It's one of, if not the the worst thing a sport could do to break a man, and for tony, it did just that. Tony deserves way more then a Hall of Fame jacket and plaque. This guy deserves a huge salary and position with the UFC, until he decides to retire someday. This will never happen, but if the UFC was smart enough to, this one move would pay huge dividends in the eye's of all the fan's who know the real truth of Tony's story and why he never became champ.

This is an interesting documentary, leaving much to the reviewer to decide what to make of El-Cucuy. Or how to apply what was seen to their own lives. You see some highlights here, but not really much of what he holds in his hands. I could go research I suppose, but going to leave that part private to him. I think I would like to meet him though. My observations. El-Cucuy is in search of a purpose in life, no different than anyone else, and finds the love, fun, glory, and money in MMA. And he was good at it. It is interesting that in such, winning comes at the cost of someone else losing. And the best assurance of winning comes without relying on any judges decisions. But, there are rules. There are limits. There is an organization administering the fights. I felt I could see the disdain for the organization growing over time, feelings of unfairness of unjust decisions, or not being given the limelight or opportunities felt deserved. Maybe he felt his time was running out. I watched this in part because I wonder how the careers and very lives of MMA athletes end. I'm relatively new to the MMA and just absorbing a bunch of random history, seeing the past players, picking up the pieces of what happened. These guys come, and then they go. It is a short career, at least watching from the outside, of which the fighter stands, and the count of fights not so different than the count of their digits. El-Cucuy said they aren't cocks in a fight, but I worry they are. Of all the administration and media, hype, and crowds, there ends up only two losing blood. I think I understand a little why fighters fight, but don't know if any of us understand or appreciate what is really happening. I suspect with each fight counted, they change, and realize what they're doing, and it is physically and mentally taxing. One announcer said you can't take that kind of damage and not have consequences - just what are the consequences? What is the damage? I imagine El-Cucuy as a man behind a mask. Him having built an identify, and having difficulty taking off the mask. From this story, I think I could see with every count of an f-bomb, as a measure, El-Cucuy beginning to fail. Maybe we, all of us, only have so many fights. Maybe we only have so many f-bombs. And it makes me wonder where my count is in my own life.
