I tend to always pay extra close attention for people riding by themselves or with a partner. I guess it comes years of difficult experiences on a bicycle. The clubs in my area (one specifically) are incredibly irresponsible most of the time i see them in groups though. I don't feel obligated to look out for the safety of a bunch of grown men that all dress up the same way to show how unique they are and attempt to bully people on and off the road. Especially if theyre not looking out for their own safety to begin with.

In April this year our group (about 5 bikes and a trike) rode from Southern California to Scottsdale, Arizona for Arizona Bike Week, and even doing a steady 75mph we were frequently passed by all sorts of other vehicles doing at least 85~90mph. I’ve noticed that sometimes people in cars get into a competitive driving mode when they see a motorcycle, and want to prove they can drive just as fast or faster than a motorcycle can.
@JParker.
@JParker. 12 күн бұрын
@@chrisharriman4989 or maybe 75 just isn't comfortable for everyone. Or maybe they don't want to be around when someone in your pack does something stupid and sends everyone down. I set my speed by what I feel comfortable and safe doing. You don't get to assume that because you want to go 75 with all your costumed friends that everyone is going to let you impede the flow of traffic.
@chrisharriman4989
@chrisharriman4989 12 күн бұрын
@@JParker. 75 mph was the posted speed limit where we were riding, whether it “just isn’t comfortable for everyone” is irrelevant. Your obvious disdain for motorcyclists (“costumed friends”) and general suppositions speak more about you than you seem to know (or care?). When on a ride, we ride respectfully and do our best to obey the law. We discuss our route and stops before we hit the road so “someone in our pack doesn’t do something stupid and send everyone down”. You talk like someone who has either never ridden a motorcycle, or who was wronged (cut off in traffic maybe?) by a motorcyclist. News flash, not ever motorcycle rider in a pack and wearing a “costume” (protective gear) is a biker gang member, just like one selfish and careless car driver who thinks the speed limit signs are just a suggestion doesn’t paint all car drivers like that.

This accident happened well over 10 years ago and apparently the driver of the gold Honda Civic that caused the accident was never found. I'm sure it has affected his or her health from thinking about it every day. Ironically just a few days ago another gold Honda Civic was involved in a hit and run accident that killed one motorcyclist, but this time in Ohio. The driver also kept going and is yet to be found.

I've been an avid motorcyclist for 25 years. I have a couple of hundred thousand miles of motorcycle riding experience on all kinds of bikes. Bikes need to yield to cars. Slow motorcycle riders cause accidents. If you don't want something like this to happen to you as a motorcyclist, stay away from other motorcycles, and drive faster than the rest of traffic. Not super fast, just a little faster than everyone else. Stay away from all other vehicles and things like this will not happen. The guys on the bikes could have completely prevented this by slowing down moving to the right a little and yielding to the Honda driver.

I'm not a biker but you make sense 100%! However the guy in the Honda still fled the scene of a fatal accident! Why? Something was amiss with the driver!

The were traveling in a two lane highway with dirt / sand shoulders on both sides. Where exactly were they supposed to pull over to? The story says there were only 12 motorcycles. While it doesn’t mention what speed they were traveling, from my own experience in riding long distance in groups it’s highly unlikely they were doing less than the posted speed limit. From the accident photos, it clearly shows a double yellow line running down the middle of the road. Combine crossing that with a high rate of speed, and it’s no wonder the gold Civic driver bailed. He / she knew they’d be doing life for their impatience.

I noticed that motorcycles in groups always drive too closely to one another for “safety”… I’d also bet the bikers were cruising as if they owned the roads & instead of getting out of the way I’m sure they had a bit of fun,probably sharing “you’re number one “ fingers to one another too because a pack of Harley riders not being aggressive jerks would be the exception to the rule.

Being as I guess the club I'm over is the exception to your rule, let me get this strait. A car decides to pass a pack of bikes that were doing at least the speed limit. Passes on a double yellow "aka a non passing area. Causes another car to leave the road to avoid a head on with the illegal passing car, looses control bc of the illegal passing car, and hits the bikes bc of the illegal passing car. And in your opinion it's somehow the bikers fault for no reason other than you don't like bikers and apparently especially Harley riders. Hmm well that's your opinion and much like ass holes we all have one, mine happened to be that your a brain dead dip shit. But well that's just my opinion.
