Coupling Carl Sagan's narration to the up-to-date videos really drives home Sagan's point that we are evolving continuously- a very nice little prize. There were no wind farms, Iraqi fire fields, Deepwater oil fires before Sagan died- and now they are just normal recent memories. Yet, they fit as backgrounds perfectly as he pointed out the people that reach the stars will not be like us- they will be new versions of us. A hopeful point- troubles come and go, but time and change are continuous. Thanks!

No anti west hate crimes, no Islamic shooting sprees on the streets of Paris....indeed it was a good time, when men where men and others kept to their own. Their own dusty, empty realms instead if flooding into civilised countries to live off their systems that those countries forged from the blood of their people and the fruit of the earth upon which they lived, simply to better the world. For abolition of slavery what do they get? For science what do they get? For technology what do they get? Kalashnikov rounds fired at satirical news papers. Bombs at teenage concerts. Women, children murdered. That what they get. Free a savage, and he will come back to enslave you. Mark my words Europe is in the process of leading that now.

Never fails to make me tear up. Everything about this video is so relevant right now. People don't realize how big of a deal global warming is right now and the soon to be most powerful free man on Earth thinks global warming is a conspiracy created by China. It makes me really, really sad. We are so fragile, and precious, everything on Earth is. This is our only oasis in a never ending sea of universe. We need unity, we need awareness, we need action.

When I was young teenager and barely aware of youtube this was one of my first videos I came across with; I would end saving it into a playlist and I would see this video whenever I would get sad or feel lost. I would end up forgetting about the video and oddly enough came across it again but at time where I once again feel lost, boy Carl Sagan has a way to bring some hope back into me.

The internet age is slowly opening the eyes of the world. Now more than ever we can communicate with people of vastly different cultures and ideology and guess what... At our core we are all the same. Good people who just want to do what is right. Looking across reddit and youtube, for example, at the Ukraine crisis, neither side wants to go to war. The problem is the greedy politicians we choose to lead. We need a new system of government. But I'm not smart enough to come up with one.

Those of us who are mostly moral and curious and passionate and concerned need to raise our voices up and start rattling the cage more. We cannot fear fighting for what is right--the survival of us...and the basic goodness in most people. And a rational, scientifically informed viewpoint that is systematic, yet also dynamic and not rigid and open to change. And a future where technology really does create abundant resources so that suffering isn't as bad.
@BasedAlaric
@BasedAlaric 5 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't class none of the suffering today as religious. It's driven by political evil, greed and the pressure of the media. Funny enough, media loves to damage religion. We, too, are rational, unlike certain people who think that there is 67 genders.

He certainly is optimistic about the future of this planet. I've been on it 83 years and the last 30 has made me doubt we will even make it to the end of this century.

Carl Sagan, you have been such an inspiration to my curiosity of the universe. I remember watching Cosmos when I was a child. Recently within the past year, I stumbled upon Cosmos once again while I was searching for Universe-Related documentaries on Netflix. To make a long story short, I ended up watching the entire series non-stop only to find that, compared to the research back then, and the research now, you were spot on. May you find all of the answers while you sleep. Rest in Peace.

Every time I listen to this it awakes this strong, almost indescribable, longing for space. The feeling that I need to leave this planet and venture into space simply because I am not there yet.

I need this video to find the energy to read physics when I'm exhausted after studying, and having a full time job. Thanks Carl Sagan! I would never manage without your soothing, yet powerful, and inspirational voice!

I remember when everyone on this video's comments was complaining that it only 250,000 views. we've almost hit 2.5 million. this is such a great video everyone should see it.

You know, when I'm sad, angry, happy, ANYTHING. I sit down and take 30 minutes out of my day to watch the entire set. It brings my mood to a calm. No matter what. Just hearing Carl Sagan has that affect on me.

I love you and miss you Carl. YOU are the reason I developed a curiosity about our universe. You are the reason I wasn't ever able to accept 'because' as an explanation. You are the reason I'm a scientist today. Thank you. You live on in our hearts and minds..

Couldn't have said it myself. For some reason there is a running trend with physicists and their ability to inspire others. Einstein, deGrasse Tyson, Sagan, ... just absolutely amazing people. I could listen to them all day long.

Wow. This video (along with pretty much anything Carl Sagan has ever done) makes me want to climb up on the roof and start screaming. He did so very much for us all, and there will never be another quite like him. Thank you for sharing this.

This. I can't understand how so many people can watch something like JB, when there are so many beautiful videos like this one, videos about wonders of nature and universe that make you feel and wonder and think ... Or perhaps they are afraid of thinking, afraid of feeling insignificant compared to vastness of it all. I wish more people would think of science and knowledge as something beautiful, something worth learning and practicing.
