I suspect that once you read "Project Hail Mary" you will struggle to understand how the same author could have written "Artemis". "The Martian" was fantasic. I was very let down by "Artemis". "Project Hail Mary" is phenominal. I don't want to sell it too hard, but it is a great book. It has, in my opinion, one of the most well thoughtout and interesting depictions of extraterrestrial life. 10/10 would recommend. I have really been enjoying your reviews, please keep them coming!

You're not the only one to say it! I can't wait to read it tbh, so many people can't possibly be wrong with the hype.

I haven't got through Artemis, but did read Project Hail Mary, and it was total crap.

@@Paul_Todkill Honestly. For the kind of reader you seem to be I think it's hard to overhype project hail mary. I went in to it after seeing that Brandon Sanderson did a video review (which I think he did only for PHM) and gushed about it. The book was amazing for me. For me it's something like a book I would give to someone to get into Sci-fi, who loves a lot of science details. Something to hook you into the genre. It's a really great book. One of my favorite reads ever. After PHM I was almost buying Artemis to read (I was hyped to read more of andy wier) but I read bad reviews so I gave up from the start.

I didn’t read this book, but listened to the audiobook narrated by Rosario Dawson. I love the book, but the narration is what really sets everything up for me. Rosario as a narrator may make this book for many people.

Damn, yeah I bet. She sounds like a great pick. Goes to show how much impact the VA makes... In this case to lift up pretty subpar prose.

Looking forward to your Hail Mary review, I'm surprised you were able to finish a book that you'd compare to love and thunder tbh.

Unfortunately the best comparison I could make... This one was rough. Already picked up Project Hail Mary, really hope it delivers.

I really liked Project Hail Mary. It was a fun and creative space adventure with a bunch of interesting speculative science. Very Bobiverse in feel. I tried to read Artemis. It was bad, bad, bad. Thanks for the review. Happy reading!

Appreciate it! And yes. Very much looking forward to reading it as soon as Dungeon Crawler Carl releases its grip on my soul ahaha.

@@Paul_Todkill Understandable. I loved DDC myself and it really kicked off a quest for more litrpgs. 'He who fights with monsters' is a great second series for that by the way.

“The Martian” the book is SO. MUCH. BETTER than the movie.

That's pretty high praise considering I thought the movie was pretty darn good. Stellar cast.

I was just looking up reviews of this book because I DNFed it last week. It wasn't the worst 'menwritingwomenbadly' that'd I'd seen, but it was hard for me to get invested in the character when the author kept interjecting things that were so out of pocket that it would break immersion. I'm on the waitlist for PHM; looking forward to how you found it compared to Artemis.

You're more forgiving than I am. I was a huge Andy Weir fan--even dressed as Mark Watney for Halloween before the movie came out. But then Artemis... I've heard that Project Hail Mary is good, but I haven't yet been able to get over the disappointment of Artemis and give Andy Weird another chance. Maybe someday.

This was my third attempt at making this video because the first two were so mean. I legit had it uploaded and scheduled and then took it down before it went live. It's more a sense of morbid curiosity as much as anything tbh. And I've seen SO many people praise it .. they can't all be wrong, can they??

Once in a while a piece of writing just happens to fit the times and takes off. Quality has little to do with it. 50 Shades of Gray. Twilight. Timing is everything. I'm wondering if "Artemis" was a novel he had written earlier and shelved, and the publisher put it out based on his name. Publishers don't care about long-term career building.

Artemis is such an overhated book, overall it is very average. But the expectations of the martian killed that book, it got review bombed so bad simply due to peoples expectations which were far too high, its overall a solid book but nothing special. Project Hail Mary on the other hand is a masterpiece and better than the martian imo.

To be fair I hadn't seen a single review for Artemis before I read it. This was my completely unfiltered reaction... And the third time I recorded it before the first times were too mean. If this book gets criticism it's because it deserves it. Already picked up Project Hail Mary and very excited to get the true quality of Weir's writing.
