Thank you. I been doing the 3 routes for past 13 years in RT models, R25 Classic, R21 EC, R27/OB, R29 CB and now the R25/OB. I'm not a destination boater and most of the time I'm solo now and usually like the slow Route #3 for an overnight at La Conner, and then on up to the Islands etc. The Saratoga Passage can get ugly at times, so people should be aware of this. That you for you well done video and your insights. One last point for going eat to west through the Deception Pass. At times there can be a large group of small fishing boats on the outside of the pass, and if you're powering thru the pass these small bobbing boats can suddenly come into view so care needs to be taken to see them, avoid them, and as best you can slow down to reduce your stern wake to hopefully avoid rocking the small fishing boats too much... it's just a courtesy act as you don't want to be responsible for angry batters or even causing one to capsize.

Yup. During fishing season for sure. This past September we ran through the pass and video'd all the fishing boats on the West side of Deception. Start at the 3:00 minute mark. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYq1ZqiCgcyWo7c

Another great video - thank you. I have been involved in the Puget Sound gill net fishery for decades and have traversed these routes in all weather, day or night, in boats about the same size as yours long before Garmin plotters were the norm. You are spot on about watching the currents for D. Pass, but for Admiralty and/or Saratoga Inlets, it's always worth noting the direction of the tidal flow with respect to the wind. Even with a little wind, if you have opposing tide, it will get bumpy. It's great to see the two of you having so much fun with your boat.

Even two years later, this is a great video. Super informative. I'm ready to try Deception Pass!

Glad it was helpful! Deception Pass is easy. Use Ayetides to find the 4 knots or less window of time. It's easy to cross with 4 knots or less current. There is often days where Deception never even goes faster than 4 knots, leaving the gate open all day.

I like Swinomish Channel and have done in it a 40 Carver charter boat several years back. We have not done it in our R-27 classic. Maybe this year.

Quite insightful and much appreciated....have only transited via Admiralty Inlet (sometimes via the Port Townsend Canal ) to the San Juans...home port is Port Ludlow.....have met all sorts of conditions within the Admiralty Inlet! (R-29 CB/Puffin)

Port Ludlow, we visit somewhat often for lunch. Especially during the off-season. Makes for a great day-trip for us.

Great video! Just one question: when you are navigating through Admiralty inlet, and the water is a little choppy, what speed do you navigate? 7kts?
@Letsgochannelsurfing2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching!! 7-10 knots usually when the seas get rough. There are times when I'm able to skim across the top of them and can do like, 18-22 knots. It all depends on the height of the waves and their direction. At timestamp 24:31 in this video, we are in Admiralty Inlet doing 10 knots. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKG5gGx-rpxkprs

how many miles you get from a tank doing cruising speed?
@Letsgochannelsurfing2 жыл бұрын
I get about 150nm on a tank of gas. I don't like to run my tank down below 35 gallons left. I burn about 18-20gph at cruising (25 knots). Current and wind come into effect quite a bit. Often times I find myself on flat water (as you've seen in our videos), but all too often, the current is running the "other way". A 2 knot current as the tide moves can take me from 1.5mpg to 1.4 or 1.6, depending on the direction of the current. The 3 blade Yamaha outperforms the 4 blade Powertech prop at cruising speeds for fuel efficiency. I keep a good fuel log... for an entire year, averaged fast and slow cruising... all the fuel I've burned over all the water I've traveled, I get about 1.5mpg, averaged. The boat has a 147 gallon gas tank. Figure 18-20gph at cruising (25 knots).
