He did an astounding job at still coming across as this ominously imposing presence even in such an exposed and vulnerable state. And the way they captured that darkness and twinkle in his eyes in the close-ups was a perfect way of adapting the look of Dream even without the pitch-black eyes with stars for pupils, but it was his intense look that really sold it. And the emotion he conveyed with said eyes felt so sincere, he didn't even need to utter a word. Tom has talked a lot about how being a conduit for the collective unconsciousness of the universe makes him an inherently extremely compassionate being, but his role forces him to suppress that emotion, so I love how he's able to keep this stoic, stone-solid demeanor while a simple glance from him contains an ocean of emotion. Will there ever be a time when Western filmmakers understand what makes Resident Evil Resident Evil? Most RE stories in the games only span a single night to a few days and I wonder why every filmmaker wants to make their own version of RE when the games themselves are very short stories perfect for cinema. (RE6 would work better as a series.)
@ajb_sg2 жыл бұрын
It is tricky to adapt Resident Evil. You can’t really include game protagonist into live action for a compelling storyline. We as the viewers will know they wont die or turned into zombies. No stakes at all. So imo, better to leave RE alone if you dun have a good story to tell.

You're kidding, right? The novel makes the series look like a Netflix adaptation (pun intended). For instance, John Dee was horrifying and evil in the novel. In the series he's just a goofy old man, he's kind of bad but not close to the novel Dee. In the original work he shot Rosemary in the face (woman who gave him lift). In the series he let her go and even gave her a gift for good measure. I just read the diner scene again. It's much more horrifying than the series. The novel has a cut off head, a woman fucking a corpse, the young man gets his throat ripped out by the older man, the cult worshipping of Dee etc etc. Same goes for the rest of the series. It's much lighter than the novel. In 'The Sound of her Wings' the mother crawls up in fetal position when she discoveres her dead baby. The series doesn't show that at all. It's more. Much more. John Constantine walking though a living body smeared out over the walls when seeking the pouch of sand. Jed's abuse, he gets punched in the gut in the novel. Resurrected Abel telling Goldie a tale of a kind elder brother who'd never hurt his little brother. And he was sad while telling the story. In the series he was weirdly happy like it didn't matter at all that he gets murdered on a regular basis. The series lack the gravitas of the novel. And the race and gender swapping is just forced and destroys immersion.

I think we'll mostly see her ancestor in flashbacks after this, but it'd be cool if we got more of her present-day counterpart, too. Especially with her and Tom Sturridge's Dream's chemistry. Constantine also has history with Swamp Thing in the comics (as does Matthew the Raven before he became a raven and Cain and Abel), so what would be really cool is if they revived the Swamp Thing series and had Jenna Coleman's version pop up there. I think she'd fit perfectly into that show.

I really hate the fact that producers aren't allowed to say "we couldn't get the rights to John Constantine" and instead are forced to say "we randomly decided to take on this creative challenge." It's fine, we all know why you switched John to Johanna, we all get it, just say so. You did a great job with the switch. But we all know that if you didn't have to make that switch, you wouldn't have.

Also save the budget to have the old 18th century joanna and modern day joanna as the same actor, gotta keep the small cast! They will come back to the old joanna in the season 2 I think! Good choice of the show I think!

Yeap! Tom is a brilliant actor and adorable person. I really felt for him in this interview, because he was soo embarrassed. I imagine how relieved he was when it was over. I'm introverted and rather shy too... I've seen plenty of Tom's interviews and when he feels comfortable he totally rocks!😊Smart people keep saying Tom is INFP personality type and I believe them, because I'm INFP too 😅In the past I thought it's pretty fucked up to be INFP... So I genuinely admire Tom as a person and an actor ❤Take care and see you around!

I hope this show gets the recognition that it so very much deserves. Can’t wait for more of The Sandman! I’m looking forward to more seasons in the future!

I came into watching The Sandman with zero knowledge of it being a DC comic, and I'm really glad for that. There's a sort of stigma associated with Marvel and DC comics movies which probably would've biased me... I don't think it would've hit as hard as it did if I'd known it was DC beforehand. Having not read the comics beforehand, series felt like some sort of Greek Epic.
@snegarz65152 жыл бұрын
One thing that really stood out for me with the first episode was that there isn't anything sexual about Dream's nakedness. It is very obvious that he isn't like that by choice, and he just looks wronged and vulnerable and bare, rather than sexy (though he is very sexy in general). So I quite disliked how the interviewer here talks about Tom's body WHEN HE'S CLEARLY SO UNCOMFORTABLE. If you don't see how not ok this is imagine how creepy it would have felt if it was a man talking about a woman's naked body like this.

This does feel dream-like 😁 .. coolest thing is seeing each person in and out of character, the work is a mastery of emotional upheaval and crossing the lines of what was once impossible to convey/achieve in television, beautifully cinematic and a force for this cast in its preserved state as the story continues to unfold in this timeless floating hourglass of dramatic dark and curious telling. 🤗 Thank-you sooo much

I adore Felicia Day. I had the pleasure of meeting her at a convention once and she was great. She's a full on geek so it was like talking to a peer rather than a celebrity. They really nailed the casting for this season. With emphasis on Dream, Desire and Gilbert. Kirby Howell-Baptiste was great as Death but after listening to the audioplay on Audible (which I strongly recommend) I have a personal preference for Kat Dennings as Death.

I think every actor managed to make their character grab the attention of the viewer. I`ll be sad when or if the Corintian isnt in the show anymore cuz even if he is like a minor villain i love the way the writers and the actor did him. His constant little smile and his voice and the fact he acts on his own motives makes him a mixed character. Like he doesnt just kill people , he will ally with them yes for his own gain but still be in a way friendly towards some humans if they have some use to him.

Far better than any other Netflix original series other than Stranger things and it could be better than that given the second season is as good as the first.
