Before this originally aired it was publicised that Matt Smith would guest star and that former companion Jo would make her first nu-Who appearance. As a longtime Whovian, I was even more excited to see Jo than I was for Matt’s appearance. I’m glad you still enjoyed this episode even though you didn’t know who Jo was. Also, did you see this was written by Russell T Davies? It was after he’d stepped away as Who showrunner and the only time he wrote for Smith’s Doctor. I thought he completely nailed his character.

This episode has always been a soft spot for me! Jo Grant is one of my favourite companions from the classic series and I’m very glad she ended up coming back. Also all of those references to classic companions at the end is just nice, if anything just to show how travelling with the Doctor can inspire people to do good. You mentioned the idea of having other classic companions back, and quite a few of the actors who haven’t passed away are still making Doctor Who audio dramas to this day. The same goes for the living doctors as well, where only Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi and Jodie Whittaker haven’t done any yet. Hoping you enjoy the next episodes! I remember liking them

Jo grant, main companion of the third doctor from 1971-1973. She worked for unit with the doctor, cus in that era of the classic series the doctor was stuck on earth by the timelords. So she hasn’t seen the doctor since she left in the 1973 episode, sarah jane smith was introduced in the very next episode of classic who as the next companion

just thought I would mention this, the mention of Sanjay in this episode was because Russel T Davies and CBBC planned to have Luke come out as Gay if the series hadn't had to abruptly end with Elizabeth Slade's passing. Also thought I would mention though I have seen that other people have mentioned it Jo Grant is from the classic series and was the first companion of the third doctor before Sarah Jane.

I think I vaguely remember something about the friend Luke mentions, Sanjay, being meant to be his boyfriend. But someone at the BBC didn’t like that idea for a kids show. So Russel T Davies wasn’t allowed to do it. Though I might be misremembering. I also like the idea that if the Doctor is ever in serious trouble stuck without his Tardis, he can rig up one of those machines, switch places with Clyde and get some help. It would be super funny to see that happen in a later episode, just see a 30 year old Clyde pop up where the Doctor was and be like, “What the hell just happened?”

Jo! She was the third doctor’s companion before Sarah. Sarah was third and fourth. So excited when I saw this thumbnail! This episode is too faced paced for a classic ep but having a quarry be another planet- that was typical classic who 😄. I wondered if Russel Davies was floating the idea of a Jo and Grandson spin-off, explaining what what’s-his-name, Mr.Side character, was there.

Weirdly Matt Smith channels Pertwee when with Jo really well, bit like how Tennant channeled T.Baker when with Sarah Jane in School Reunion & The Wedding Of Sarah Jane. Back in The End Of Time aired December 2009/January 2010, some critiques were RTD patting himself on the back too much since this would have gone out October 2010 the Smith Doctor & Jo scene could have possibly (and id be willing to bet money on) been added after. But tbf think it works better knowing that the Doctor looked in on everyone from his grandaughter, Susan to Donna (if just counting TV)/Mark & Anya (if including Tennant Doctor audios)/Gabby, Cindy & Noobis (if including Tennant Doctor comics) as opposed to just Rose-Donna.
@HamzaReactz Жыл бұрын
Yeah I see what you mean, and it is cool that he did go and see them all. But if I had to play devils advocate, it makes more sense for Tennet’s Doctor to only go see the companions from RTD’s era because those characters are the ones that saw Tennants face. But I’m still glad they said he went to see them all. It shows that he cares about them. And doesn’t just regard a current one and move onto the next :)
@elliottnoad1270 Жыл бұрын
@@HamzaReactz true to be fair, iirc the critique was more doing it in Stolen Earth/Journey End and The End Of Time. like if they were to do everyone on-screen, definitely would go over the heads of some fans and make a 72 min episode of a 2 hours 12 minute long story, even longer.
