MAN I WANT SARUM TO COME BACK SO BAD
@SarumChoirmaster7 ай бұрын
I founded THE SARUM SOCIETY in 1984 in Louisville, Kentucky at old Grace Episcopal Church, a 1928 Prayer Book Church. The main first goal was to establish a small professional all male choral ensemble. As of this comment, I have established a very small beginning monastery, dedicated to the worship of GOD through the sacred classical arts and music.

I say bring back all Pre Tridentine rites that are possible to be restored.

The Carmelite Rite continued after the reform of Trent, since it had been in use for well over 300 years by Trent. Even after the liturgical changes of Vatican 11, the Carmelite Order retained "the right to the Rite" and hence the Rite is being used in different places again today. Gordon Carter. Adelaide. Indeed most religious orders continued to use their particular rites since the Council of Trent did make provisions for it. In many instances it took literally centuries to accept the changes of Trent and were finally only successful in the late 18th to 19th centuries.

Lanherne convent in Cornwall houses a traditional Carmelite community of nuns, and they use the Carmelite Rite. It's similar to the Tridentine rite but with a few interesting differences. It's a beautiful place to visit.

What do you think about the new edition of the Anglican Office Book?

The 1662 BCP has a set of prefaces, including this line: "Moreover, the number and hardness of the Rules called the Pie, and the manifold changings of the service, was the cause, that to turn the book only was so hard and intricate a matter, that many times there was more business to find out what should be read, than to read it when it was found out." Admirable turn of phrase. But I have never seen a copy of the "Pie." Any location?

the Roman Rite almost wiped out all the other rites even before Council of Trent

I hope that the original Latin texts of the English translations are supplied by the good Doctor in his Holy Work of recovering the Sarum Rite and its Breviary/Divine Office. *+DEVS VVLT*

I'm puzzled by the notion of the BCP being formed by Cramner condensing the Medieval rite with that of the book of hours. Although the book of hours was the favorite devotion of the literate classes of the Middle Ages and beyond, but it was essentially a Marian devotion and I wonder to what degree Cramner as a reformer would have used the hours of the BVM as a model. Regarding the attempts to revive the Sarum rite in the 19th century; there was no discussion of the influence of the revival of religious communities in the C of E and the need to provide them with offices that were intentionally not 'Roman'.

What mass was used by the 3 mysterious bishops from the British Isles that showed up unexpectedly at one of the very early Councils? These 3 bishops were way before Augustine showed up. AND what was the mass rite called that was used before any schism occurred.
