Good video. You should have also mentioned that Pope Pius IX, when the English hierarchy was being reinstated, offered the English bishops the choice of using either the Tridentine Mass or the Use of Sarum as their primary form of liturgy in England. Many of the supporters of the Use of Sarum fell into heresies such as Brand Theory, so the English bishops chose to use the Tridentine Mass, although many Victorian Catholic churches were built in a Sarum style. Pugin, talking to Cardinal Newman about Birmingham Oratory, said that he didn't want to design for "so un-English and unmedieval a foundation as the Oratorians".

its survival was noted in Derbyshire in 1745, in some modified form, local Catholics found French ritual surprising (RJ Urquhart, Ceremonies of the Sarum Missal, p. xvi). It had become identified somewhat with Anglican exponents of the branch theory who were looking for a Rite which was both Latin and utterly English (fairly English as it's derived from the Use of Rouen).

The vast majority of bishops and higher clergy have voided. nullified and abrogated any and all authority by the evil they have done. Therefore, there is NO binding legal authority upon anyone and especially other clergy.

Most of the local Uses like that of York were derived from Sarum, but that cannot be pushed as a definite point particularly given that Uses such as that of Bangor have disappeared, known only from scattered remarks and notices and the efforts at partial reconstruction by one Anglican priest who converted were very much speculative.

Not even close. Sarum is far closer to the Tridentine mass.

@@pipsasqeak820 well yes. The ordinariate mass is formed largely the text that was being used by Western Rite Orthodox following the use of St Tikhon/English Liturgy as well as that of the Anglo Catholic missals. So it just supplemented Prayer Book Liturgy with entire passages from the Roman Rite.

@@pipsasqeak820 Remember, the Book of Common Prayer was 9/10s an English translation of the-then Catholic liturgy -- the parts referring to the Pope, etc were removed, and the rest kept. VERY roughly speaking, What the Ordinariate has done is put those bits back in, and keep the beautiful and stately formal English translation of what started out as the Sarum Rite, for modern use. (Personal note: I should like to see the old "Pax tablet" of the Sarum Use brought back for the Ordinariate kiss of peace)

The use of Sarum was outlawed by the Council of Trent! Papal decrees regulating the use of traditional forms of the Latin mass only apply to rites that remain legal.
