A walk like this is one in a million. Our friends Todd and Luca invited us for a stroll down an unnamed canyon.
Not only did we see the rare Prairie Dog Bag we found a flawless knife.
To say best day ever would not quite do. The site was amazing, the company even better.
Special thanks to Todd and Luca for having us along.

Seeing those two artifacts in their natural habitat is so much more meaningful than seeing them in some glass case in a museum. It helps me visualize their actual use better for some reason. Thanks for sharing.

WOW!! That is amazing. I was blown away by the thought of that satchel probably laying in the same place for several hundred years. But then the knife. What a treasure. Thank you for sharing.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your videos and commentary. I have always loved archeological studies and especially Native American subjects. On the farm I grew up in Indiana we had what must have been a village and I found dozens of arrowheads and other artifacts. I spent a lot of my vacation time visiting southern Utah and other ancient sites around the world, but never discovered the deeper areas of where you go. I wish I had, but now my health would never permit it. So, I live my passion through your eyes and videos and so much appreciate your sharing what you see without giving away where you find the things. I REALLY appreciate you and your videos!!

Thank you very much. I really appreciate that. I enjoy getting to have these experiences and never lose sight of the bigger part of the pie. It is about where we go but the company I keep is the best part of it. My wife, Cindy and people like Todd and Luca make the world go around. Take care. More videos on the way. Happy Thanksgiving.

Dana, what an absolutely amazing find and what a wonderful experience for you all. Thanks for sharing this discovery with us all and letting us all live vicariously through you! Keep it up as we’re all benefiting from your efforts. On top of that, you’re exiting the younger generation about exploration and helping them learn about history and culture and how to preserve it for future generations to come.

Dana, I assume when you come across something so rare your mind gets flooded with thoughts of how to preserve it and who should be involved with the study. All the times I have hiked comb ridge I have wondered how many people walked out with artifacts that may have contributed to our understanding of the ancients. I think if I had come across something like that, I would notate it's position, leave it, then contact an official state archaelogical group and proceed from there. So many people are quick to take objects for personal gain and not respect the historical importance. Just my 2 cents!

That was one of the coolest things I've seen in a while. I subscribed to your channel. I do the same type of stuff here in southeast Missouri. Most of the native spots in my area were destroyed long ago. We search the creeks and fields trying to save as many pieces as we can from being destroyed any farther.

Hello Dana and co! I can hear you're still exited. This is out of this world, and simply breathtaking! That's pure happiness. My father found a knife from the stonage quite simular to the one you found. It is now at a museum. You got me so exited I almost skiped to the hiking -video. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, we need this stuff in these difficult times. Take care and congratulations with a new man ( J-B)at the throne!

That was one of your best efforts; I appreciated the background of your trek with Todd & his son. It set the stage for the views of the satchel and the knife. That view of the knife was amazing. Perhaps the title could been subtitled...."and the sunlit knife." A million Thanks!

I am a professional archaeologist and have been for 30 years. People will remove artifacts from sites and then later will put them back once they realize that taking such things just isn't the right thing to do. That blade looks to have been stashed at a much later time, perhaps very recently. Have you considered this at all? Thank you :)

I sucked in air as you were pulling out the knife. It was flawless. stunningly perfect. the knife seemed like it was as long as the pouch. any idea what material the pouch is made of? I can see why you rated your trip so high. Unbelievable. Its one thing to see it in a museum, but to come across it is remarkable.

Props to you for leaving! And for sharing the video! Your probably 1 out 100 that has the gall to leave it as it was! If only everyone could do the same. So I believe I glassed up what u called bull pen Ruins in another video the other day. I took a picture through my binoculars across West clear creek. I’m not positive I was looking for info on these bc they seem to be very remote. If they are the same there is another set of ruins close by but not under the same bluffs. Anyway this is how I came across your channel looking for Info on the dwellings. Keep up the good work!

I thought it was a violation of Federal law to collect artifacts in a national monument.

It is. Collect??? Leave everything alone. It does not belong to us. It does not belong in a museum or a coffee table. It belongs to an ancient people. Never remove anything.

@@danahollister4084 But this video shows you handling and moving artifacts.. is that acceptable? How many folks will handle that fragile satchel before it's useless to science? Sorry, but I don't understand the logic here.

There is a gray and red/purple vain of flint in the bottom of Beef Basin and Canyonlands, east of the blm cabin outcropping with grey limestone that is likely the source, though finding a piece that size is difficult. I have been told there is gray flint around the Honaker trail.
