One thing I have learnt after years in this game is you can't please them all! Massive love to all who enjoy what we do, shouts to the Sauce, Let It Roll & SP:MC for jumping on, we had a great time ❤

Some people ain't got a clue Carasel see u in Coventry new year bro💙😉
@Lackjakeman Жыл бұрын
Mind you some people will be at home/ work will be listening to these mixes and of course, in those scenarios they wouldn't want someone chatting over the music (myself included) and that is fair enough. However... this is a festival... and an MC really does bring more life to an event like this than one would expect. I've noticed events without an MC (clubs, indoor events etc.), people will be sardined in the smoking area chatting till their ears bleed. Also, mind you, when you're at an event like this you can barely hear the MC as those bins move so much air that that all you hear is bass. OR, you are so vibed up that you don't even recognise the MC chatting. But like you said, "you cant please them all!". And if anything, if I was an MC I'd disregard any negative comment that is posted on sets that have been uploaded online as they stem from people listening at home/ work and would take to heart the comments from ravers that you meet after/ during the event when there are there to witness first hand. Much love for you Carasel. Take it easy and don't stop chatting. But you don't need me to tell you that ;)

And another thing I'll add to my previous comment, to people dissing about "oh, the MC doesn't fit the sub-genre of DnB" sometimes (and thats most of the time) it isnt up to the MC to decide what set they want to spit bars too, its the promoters you should be piping up to. And even then, sometimes its not even the promoters fault as an MC will be present at a specific set due to their available times as MC's have numerous bookings in one night. So, quit your moaning, just be pleased that you have attended an event witnessing your favourite artists shell out.

Let me start this off by saying that this comment is not in any way meant to hate on Carasel MC. If the man himself is reading this - I'm sure you're a nice guy, and I have nothing but respect for what you do. I tend to get rather annoyed at the people who just hate on every MC in every comment section of every set uploaded. I do get the notion of not liking MCs in general, but I want to make clear that I am firmly not in that camp. There are lots of MCs I thoroughly enjoy, and I can tolerate most of those I don't. However, I do still want to give a bit of (hopefully constructive) feedback. Again, all of this is just my opinion and not meant as an attack on the artist. I saw both the Kasra and The Sauce sets with Carasel from this year's LiR live, so I'm also not coming at this from the perspective of the listener at home who can't feel the energy as it happens on stage. Hell, for the Sauce set, I was rolling on some molly, which is a state in which I am very hard to get into any sort of negative mindset. But sadly, in both of these sets, the style and quantity of the MC performance, to me, felt very out of place. I think Kasra and The Sauce are pretty comparable in the sense that their core appeal is the intricate mixing of tunes with an emphasis on sound design and athmosphere. The crowds that come to these sets want to immerse themselves in a soundscape. And man, I have to say that for me, this kind of immersion was made incredibly difficult by the constant presence of high-energy shouting. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I think that Carasel's MCing is bad in general. I think it probably fits much better in a main stage kind of setting, where the vibe is less, for lack of a better term, vibe-ey. But for the artists I am talking about, there are certain boundaries for an MC in my view. In these settings, the first few bars of a drop should be sacred. I want to listen to a track unfold, and hearing a random shout interrupt these critical first moments of a track just kills any momentum for me. I remember being excited to hear a new MC live for the first time in Kasra's set, only for the signature ambient intro to be constantly talked over, including the ironic words "it's just the intro". It's not "just the intro", it's a setup for a vibe, and it didn't feel respected. The constant repitition of certain things also doesn't help. If an MC tells me about the love for the music in the room once or twice in a set, it's nice, I appreciate the love. But the absolute amount of times we heard "If you love Drum and Bass, [...]" just started to get very annoying at some point. The constant talk of "it's all about the music" and "we let the track glide/breathe" etc. also seems ironic when it's never actually allowed to glide and breathe, but is constantly interrupted. And then, there's the kinds of hyping techniques which, to me, are a failure to read the room entirely: Trying to get the crowd to do a handwave in a dark roller set as if it was a pop concert was a bizarre moment (38:33). I remember looking at the people around me at this point and many of them just shaking their heads in disbelief. Same thing with the "when I say X, you say Y" stuff. As for the bars, they're not bad per se. As a matter of fact, I think the vast majority of them flow quite nicely and sound pleasant. But, once again, a little more restraint would have worked wonders here. There were in my opinion way too many of these long sections of bars. And this next point is probably a little petty and influenced by me already being annoyed with the MC in these sets, but: I had the impression that the majority of these bars were made up of self-praise, either calling himself the greatest MC or variations of "other MC's don't know what they're doing". Nothing wrong with those kinds of lyrics in general, but again, the absolute quantity is what made them very grating to me. Especially when there's multiple instances of talking over a tune's lyrics, it feels egocentric. I know I wrote a lot of stuff here, but it all comes down to one thing: With a little more restraint, the influence of the MCing on the sets would have been far less negative for me. If you're playing a crowd which is drawn by somewhat niche DJs, coming to listen to their craft, you don't need to put your MC performance front and center. I vividly remember this moment from the opening minutes of the Kasra set, which turned out to be foreshadowing for things to come: A set of bars were ended with "The Carasel MC with Kasra in the party". That's what it felt like - the Carasel show, with the DJ tagging along. Even with all the love for MCs that I have, they should never be taking over a set to the point where they're so constantly disrupting the flow of the music.

Wow never had such a critical analysis of my performance before so felt it deserved a response and of course my respect without picking into certain points too much. Hopefully in a future performance I can turn your opinion around but if not that is fair enough. Different flows for different shows is what we say, not everyones style works for all but we all stand on stage with a passion and a love for the music that we have spent our lives pushing. I have had way more positive messages about this set than negative but it is always the negative ones that stay with us the most and I will openly take your words on board because we never want to ruin a set for anyone, our job is to enhance and that is what we do week in week out or we simply would not get booked, I am very sorry you and your mades did not enjoy on this occasion ❤
@m.5021 Жыл бұрын
Massive respect for this response man. I can say from experience that what you said about negative responses sticking with you way more than positive ones is very true. That doesn't change the fact, however, that all the positive feedback you've been getting from this set is just as valid as my criticism, remember that :) You said you didn't want to pick into certain points too much out of respect, but if you'd like to share your point of view on some of the things I said, please feel free to do so. Another perspective is always interesting and welcome. In any case, your love for the music is evident and appreciated. There's no need to apologise for anything - as you said in another comment, you can't please them all. What you do, you do with a sincere passion, and you should never be sorry for that. I'll be keeping an open mind next time I see you on the lineup. Kudos for being such a good sport about my admittedly harsh criticism, I really do appreciate it :)

@@m.5021 I was looking for your comment and I must fully agree. Could not have said it better. Not all styles fit together but I think Fokus, Bluejay, Gusto, SPMC to name a few would definitely fit in much, much better. Hopefully LIR keeps this in mind if they are the ones to decide. I'm a big MC fan but imo. this set wasn't enjoyable anymore. Apart from that, big ups to all MC's who gives everything they got at every set for the love of music though.
