Douglas MacArthur wanted to nuke the Chinese to win a “police action” most Americans didn’t even stop sock hopping to pay attention to. He also put personal ego over sound strategy by invading the Philippines which was a waste of resources under the Island Hopping strategy.

@calvinnickel9995 asked the soldiers who went to serve in the Korean War if it was a police action. The first thing they told soldiers when they arrived in Korea was ,I know you've heard that this is police action, it isn't, it a war, and you better remember that. The term police action was a political term used because they didn't want the American public, who were war weary after the second world War to think we were in another major conflict of which we were just that, in another major conflict, a war.

I’d say that there’s a time for diplomacy, but once you go to war, that’s the only answer. This is especially true in Vietnam, where nobody knew who was a combatant and who wasn’t. Apparently we didn’t learn those lessons, look at Afghanistan.

There are surprisingly many similarities between Vietnam and Ukraine war. Underestimation of the enemy (USA then and Russia now), political rather than military targets for bombing, lack of domestic production of weapons, fuel and the supply of these from allies. Impossibility of realizing an advantage in aviation due to enemy air defense systems.

It never fails to surprise me how nations can go to war with unlimited budgets but are unable to look after their most venerable people. MacNamara & Johnson basically used Nam as a "real-life" weapons development program. When they picked the F-4 Phantom over the Vought F-8 U3 Supercrusader, that cost some American pilots their lives. War is politics. The British could have steamrolled over the Americans in 1776 and 1812. Both times they were fighting numerous other wars and it wasn’t worth it.
@Crete194326 күн бұрын
The U.S. political and military misunderstood Clausewitz, who defined strategy as “the theory of the use of combats for the object of the War.” Tactics and strategy are the same, the aim of tactics is strictly to win on the battlefield, but the aim of strategy is to contribute to the political goal of the eventual peace. Both need clear and precisely defined goals. There were no such goals during the war in Vietnam. None whatsoever. Only the military industrial complex had clear and precisely defined goals and consequently walked laughing to the Bank.

He who sows the wind will reap the storm. America had to pay a price that was far too low in Vietnam. The Vietnamese fought for their country and for their lives, US soldiers fought for the profits of the arms industry and against an imaginary communist threat. If they had stayed at home, they could have lived.
@Ron-d2sАй бұрын

While the US did indeed fight for profits for the arms industry across the country's many many wars, the communist threat was decidedly NOT imaginary. In fact, that threat is getting more & more real again today.

Do the fake film scratches need to be on every clip?
@effingsix3825Ай бұрын
A lot of film reels from the Vietnam war era were taken first on film, and then transferred to video for television, thus recording the scratches. The ‘scratches’ are also imperfections in the video reproductions. The Vietnamese reels are almost certainly taken on film. Film has certain markers that appear in individual frames in the film. It’s something you would watch without experiencing anything amiss. Nowadays, it would be ludicrous to watch these individual frame markers.

Quite a lot of similarities between the Vietnam war and the actual Ukraine war. And again it is not about „freedom“, it’s about 💰! Us delivers the hardware, Europe, mainly Germany pays Ukraine to pay the leasing payments for the hardware to the US. Some also say, that it might have to do with the vast (70%) agricultural land owned by 4 US moguls… Or about the illegal expansion to the east of NATO… Or maybe to cover up the multiple bio labs located in Ukraine as were still shown on the webpage of the DOD up until April 22… But who am I to know? And sure there are no similarities. I haven’t seen any in the European mainstream media outlets. These would definitely be fake news! Which by the way were the fake news on the labs? The one given by the German chancellor denying that there were any in Ukraine or the spokesperson of DOD who affirmed the existence and that they fear that they fall into enemy hands (shown on c-span)? Ah yes, the same chancellor of Germany who was standing next to POT(S when he explained they have the means and ways to take out the Russian German gas pipeline… The gov would never do that all on purpose, right? That’s what we’ve been teached in school and all our lives.
