Us Brits are astonishing at inventing stuff. Just look at history. What we are shit at is developing and marketing stuff so everyone else gets the jump on us.

The AI-generated plane on the thumbnail is nothing close to a Ki61,..or a WW2 fighter...and it also misses one propeller blade.

For future reference it's not AR-den cannons It's pronounced A-Den (Ayden) sorry to be picky but the repeated mispronunciation gets grating. Love your vids keep up the good work :)

You didn't mention the FD2's swan song. It was fitted with a scaled-down version of the wing intended for the Concorde and used as a test bed during the Concorde's design process.

If any lesson to be learned, politicians should never have control over military advancement, because they only care about profiting from it. Never about protecting the country.

Same thing happened in Canada. The Dew Line & guided missiles were going to be the Hot Setup. Ottawa, kow-towing to Washington, at the behest of US aircraft manufacturers, caused all the airframes of the AVRO Arrow CF-105 under T&E to be destroyed. Or did they miss one? Nice TV drama with Dan Aykroyd "The Arrow" tells the story.

How the heck do you put a picture of a C-119 in the thumbnail when the video is about a C-124. You have to not even to be trying to mix-up those two aircraft.

I know for sure that the FD2 was tested in skies over the penines of Lancashire and Yorkshire as a boy I lived in a little village just about on the Lancashire side of the Yorkshire border. At the time we asked our parents what these incredibly fast and loud these silver days were at the time we regarded them as a baby brother to the Vulcan bombers which also flew overhead from time to time except these smaller silver darts were even much swifter! We were told they were Fairey Delta's and we saw them so ofte that we assumed at the time that they were fully fledged RAF interceptors - when I discovered many years later that they were never commissioned by the RAF I was quite frankly disgusted and especially so when we learned that eve the French were much more impressed by them than our own government - those sleek darts were even faster than the earlier models of the EE Lightening - to think the FD3 would have been faster still certainly does smack of an enormous missed opportunity. I haven't watch all this video yet but in case it doesn't get covered not all was lost with the scrapping for the Fairey Deltas - it's droop snoop nose design found now life in the Concord and it's aerodynamics etc found it somewhat reincarnated in the Mirage II as th developers of said aircraft were given important flight text data of the FD project in return for granting flight testing airspace over parts of France after complaints from NIMBY's in the UK complaining about damage to greenhouses etc due to breaking the sound barrier over land in the UK. With updated avionics and weapon systems even the FD2 would still be a truly intimidating craft to witness in our skies today I reckon.

Pakistan Airforce killed more than 150 Endian Aircraft by our Flying Tigers. Wing Commander Alaam shoot down 7 Gnat in 45 seconds, a world record. Israelis aircraft run away when they see Pakistani pilots. Gnat was good for Endians who are 4 feet hight and thin 😂😂 weghting 35 kg ..😂😂

I wish that the YC-14 would have gone into production. I flew on C5s, C141s and way to many times C-130s. The YC-14 would have saved me many. many hours of flying on my 20 year Air Force career!

Kind of reminds me of the F-106. I talked to a guy who flew those in the air guard. He said it's not ideal for dog fighting. He told me you get one hard turn, then you've lost so much energy there's not much left for a while. A characteristic of delta wings.

That's an interesting point - I never considered the FD2 as anything other than a potential rapid response type interceptor - as I lad wen I used to see them scream overhead I assumed they were already in service! t was only many years later I discovered they were part of an experimental program only and that incredibly they were never even commissioned unless you include the BAC 221 which was basically a modestly modified FD2 then being used as a partial test bed for features later included in the development of Concord!!

An exceptional aircraft of the day. Typical bureaucracy pushed by competing large corporations led to it never reaching full potential or recognition. I can only imagine how much design tech and systems tech has been suppressed by the actions/efforts of the larger aircraft companies who use people to influence the various country's Govt. reps. Who knows how many amazing efficient designs never made it to light.

I have seen WG777 at the Royal Air Force Museum at RAF Cosford. A beautiful piece of kit. The 1957 DefenCe (correct British spelling 😉)White Paper was yet another ridiculous piece of downgrading the British military by a Conservative, yes a CONSERVATIVE, Government. Similar to the proposed cutbacks in the early 1980s that inspired Argentina to invade The Falklands. Don't believe me? Keep in mind that it was the Labour Government of 1997 that commissioned the building of the two Queen Elizabeth Class "Super Carriers" and NOT a Conservative one.

Growing up near Wright Patterson AFB in the 50's we were certainly aware of sonic booms but, as kids, we thought they were great! They fit in well with playing Army war games or cowboys and indians. We just never knew when the next explosion would take place.

That is typically British we’ve got well beating stuff that’s not make it they did it with a TSR2. That aircraft was a world beater and may well have still been in service today. It’s in some capacity with modern Navionics. It could outrun a lightning which was no main feet back in the day and they just scrapped itwith some excuse. It was because of the Americans that’s for sure yeah the Royal Air Force never did get their F1 11s.

The FD2 was never meant to be an interceptor. It was purely a resurch aircraft exploring supersonic flight using the delta wing.

It looks to me like this may be the point where the UKsters started their pathetic descent to being inferior to the French. Later, after over 25 years of resistance, they will humiliate themselves even further by adopting the French metric system. And now they even ridicule Americans at every opportunity bragging about it. How sad.
