Love me some John Buscema art but never been a fan of Buscema inking his own pencils - always felt it looked to sketchy and partly unfinished. Given the speed he worked at, that was understandable I guess. John hated Alcala's inks as he felt they overpowered his pencils which, to an extent, is very true but he was also unhappy with some of the greatest inkers such as George Klein and Tom Palmer for the same reason. However, long story short, Alcala created an atmosphere for the strip which infused every panel and at no stage did you think this was not the Hyborian age and THAT is why he is so great here.

Loved Buscema's inks on his own pencils, such crisp clear lines and minimal ink. Also loved Alcala's inks. You should try to get your camera in focus as a lot of it was out of focus and it diminished the art you were showcasing

You guys need to seek out the 2nd issue of MARVEL SUPER SPECIAL, which was a Savage Sword of Conan one, but in 'Marvelcolor' -- not mere Black-&-White. MSS #1 was the famous 'KISS' issue, purportedly printed with actual blood taken from the members of that rock group. Anyway, the Conan issue -- with Buscema inked by Alcala (in a somewhat subdued manner) and in glorious color -- adapts a REH story that didn't originally feature Conan, but was easily reworked into a Conan tale set during his pirate years. I so wish that all the B-&-W Marvel Conan stuff from SAVAGE SWORD could be given the Marvelcolor treatment! When they reprinted other Conan B-&-W stuff -- like 'RED NAILS' (illustrated by Barry Smith) and others -- in the super-sized format, colorizing them -- the coloring was fine, but nowhere near as lush as that Marvel Super Special issue was.

I had those salvage swords the artwork you can't beat it that is the best artwork as far as Conan or anything else all of the ventures come to life and jump off the page I just got rid of them after 40 years
