Men are shocked by this case. Women less so. They know what men are capable of, and live their lives with that knowledge.
@gailforce9 күн бұрын
True. I can even imagine what these guys told themselves to make them feel OK with what they did. To know more about someone's thoughts than they know should be impossible. The unspoken part of male privilege is that they are never forced to know themselves, to grow and develop. It's a choice for them. Women do not have that choice

It is shocking, and saddening. It makes me question how many fellow men I know are capable and/or willing to carry out sexually predatory behaviours. I fear the answer is more than I would like to know. I literally cannot imagine how Gisele Pelicot must feel. Her courage is astonishing.

I was horrified by this case. I am a woman. I've watched all of it and the debates from different sides. I was shocked by the amount of men. I was shocked by the defences. I was shocked by the lawyers. I was shocked by the evidence that was presented. I was shocked by how Dominique Pelicot got the drugs. I was shocked by all of it.

I attended a Northern public school; my school played James' school at rugby and cricket as part of the Northern Public School circuit. We had corporal punishment discipline at my school too. My experience was that 19 times out of 20 when a teacher disciplined a pupil they fully deserved it. They would not allow lessons to be ruined by a single annoying pupil. They also realised that they needed to go in hard and go in early so pupils knew there was no slack. The 1/20 wrongly punished learned that sadly life is not always fair. I took the same approach when as a prefect I supervised prep (homework) classes. After establishing authority at the first session with a new class there was never a problem thereafter and everyone (including me) got their prep done without interruption. The difficulty teachers face now is if they instil discipline one of two things happens far too often. Either knuckle dragging parents assault the teacher, or parents cannot believe their little angel is at fault and sue or threaten to sue the school/teacher. Children have only changed in that today they face less discipline than in days of old, which means that those who are naughty/bad are not held properly in check. Children will naturally test their teachers, their prefects, to see how far they can go and firm discipline holds them in check. Katherine Birbalsingh shows that this still works today. As for James - given how many times he was in trouble at school I wonder if his ability to argue/debate stems from school and from trying to talk his way out of trouble? 😃

More than a felling. Not all of them, but it's clear that plenty of those who govern are indeed evil and wicked. It's not just that old saying about power corrupting but also how the corrupt often seek out positions of power.

29:58 - The female caller says white men are "more likely to have been drinking or high one something" - but then goes on to talk about how people stereotype others! - Of course - James doesn't even challenge that outlandish statement. Oh dear.

Indeed. Stan indeed let himself down, and was not proving the point he thought he was, but in doing so he highlighted the double standard that James and every single caller made.

@tomparker5000 she wasn't claiming a fact. She was saying how she feels , clearly her sources are her lived experiences. You can argue on facts. When you start telling someone they shouldn't feel how they feel you are moving into gaslighting territory there which is prob partly why he didnt

I remember at upper school (I left school in 1999 it was either that year or the previous) when a teacher asked why a student who was often causing disruption, who they were there, and the response was, "because my parents will get a fine if not". I don't think it worked then, I don't think it would work now. As with most situations where there is a problem, there needs to be a short term resolution to mitigate the issue, plus a long term resolution to the cause(s) of the issue. Without both, there'll either be severe issues now, or in the future.

James view on education and behaviour are why teachers leave. Not just bc behaviour is appalling but bc media heads who went private school and sent they kids private negate how serious disruption is. Teachers leaving site it as one of the most prominent reasons they leave education.... Kids are miserable.... So why is he always negating this?
