I definitely think the Scaled Ones were the precursor to the Qunari. Since their blood "doesn't belong to them (The Qunari)", I imagine the Scaled Ones are at least half of what made the modern Qunari what they are.

Alternately: Could they be something similar to Werewolves, but merged with lizards or even dragons? I say that because the general body shape reminded me of them. Particularly the legs. What if these were people attempting to recreate the magic the Evanuris had when becoming dragons? But somehow didn't manage entirely? Could this be a Forgotten One somehow? There was a codex about someone being exiled for taking the form reserved for the gods. Yet it also specified they "took wings", yet the scaled one representation doesn't have wings. Could they have been stripped of wings? Could these be failed experiments attempting to become true dragons? Is the representation wrong or just misinterpreted? Or am I completely and entirely wrong (probably)?

If they were mutated by the use of dragon blood, it would explain why that one was capable of breathing fire (or used some kind of spell to imitate a dragon's breath) and also why they made an altar shaped like flames dragons=fire (?)

It's the Dragon Age equivalent to DnD's Dragonborn lol. Probably either a pre-curser race to the ones we know or simply the transformation of those who drink Dragon's blood too much as you stated.

I really liked that you mentioned the possibility of the Scaled Ones fighting in a war against the Evanuris. They COULD match with my theory that the war Solas mentioned was with the Old Gods. What if the Scaled Ones were the Old Gods' foot soldiers?

I find it weird That you didn't mention the Codex entries from Frostback Basin about the secret war between the moon men and the Snake Kings, especially that it says that Snake Kings came from the Earth.

The Scaled Ones are Krogan from Mass Effect. You can compare the depictions of them and see they are almost spot on. You can also find Krogan heads in the Descent dlc, one with a Dwarven axe in it.

I've always wondered if the Scaled ones were really the forgotten ones, defeated, banished and cast in to the deep as punishment. The fact that the Elves actually made murals of them suggest they are connected to Elves or perhaps were originally Elves themselves. The codex does speak of them using blood magic at the flaming altar. Why would the ancient Elves teach a subterranean race their magic when they mostly seemed to wage war on everything under the surface? I think they already had the knowledge of blood magic because they were Elves before. I think Cassandra's talk of Reavers fits quite poignantly here. Did the forgotten ones partake in Dragon blood? It's strange considering the dragon form was reserved for the divine and their most trusted. It gives more credence to the idea that they were enemies of the false gods and attempted to hunt them or their high priests. They could also be by products of Ghillan'nains splicing. We know she urged Dirthamens 'Sinner' to take wings, could it have been at the behest of the forgotten/scaled ones? Solas was said to walk freely between them all, they were more than likely all allies at some point. Whatever the reason for them being made 'forgotten' I can imagine one or 2 of the pantheon perhaps wishing to help but thats purely speculation at the moment 😀

Maybe someone wanted to see what happens if you mix human with Dragon? I mean, the Kossith have dragonblood as well and they look pretty dragony if you ask me. So maybe they are a weird human/dragon-mix? Probably the experiment went wrong or didn't have the effect they expected, so they locked them up. Hopefully we will know more in the next game!

Do you think we'll ever see the Scaled Ones in any capacity? Or will they always remain subtle easter eggs/lore building/hints that the world is bigger than we know. I honestly wouldn't be mad if it remained the latter. Sometimes these unanswered lore-building questions do very good things in making the world feel like more than what our PC's see. That being said, i'd be STOKED if we ever got to see the Scaled Ones. Maybe they turn out to be Ghilan'nain's creations. Or an ancient race driven to extinction by ancient elves. Or Qunari precursors. They're a very interesting concept!

I wouldn't be surprised if DA4, 5, maybe even 6 has little or very little on them, but that they're a lore seed for after the first 'main' arc (2000s-2020s? 30s?) of the series. After DA5 or 6 I imagine Bioware would seek to explore beyond the known Thedas, and adding bits to play with could be good. ...or the Scaled Ones are intended as early as DA4 or its DLC, heh.

I like the Theory that the scaled ones are qunari or the people that the qunari came from bull said after killing a high dragon that a theory of why the qunari think of dragons the way they do and why they have horns is because they are bred for jobs and what if they mixed some dragon.

There is another possible reference to them in the Jaws of Hakkon DLC. "Secret Prisoners of Tevinter (located behind a locked cell door in the cave where Storvacker is held prisoner in "Storvacker Caged".) Long ago, this would have been under the water, until Tevinter drained much of Swamp Kuldsdotten to build this prison. Why make a jail so remote? For Prisoners they wished to Hide. Tevinter has Made War on Orlais many times, but I now believe there is also Secret War between them that the Common People are not allowed to see. This prison is a Remainder of this Secret War that continues in our time. I speak of Orlais' attempts to rouse the Snake Kings of the Earth against Tevinter's alliance with the Moon Men. This is explained in Ser Ycke's Pamphlets, of which I have read many, which explain things such as why the snake appears in Tevinter drawings, and how the Snake-Kings came to exist. (Crystals.) Did Moon Men have their Tevinter Allies keep the Reptilian Ones here, so they could interrogate them at their Leisure? None can say, but I will say yes as that would Fit My Theories." It's an odd and interesting bit of information and I don't really know what to make of it. I'd call it a conspiracy theorist's mad dreams if there wasn't the notes on the forgotten war.

They may be some sort of darkspawn that was freed from the blight, while the chantry says that the blight became with blood mages, the dwarves tell that they were just some other underground people (for what I understand). Sorry if I wrote something wrong i'm brazilian :)

Or the strange ritual might depending on timelines be some form of corrupting magic perhaps? Titans>dwarves....scaled ones, twisting altering sacrifices perhaps blood experiments ritualized magic to alter them create a taint? We dont know where darkspawn originate per'se but what if all these dwarven and elven precurser to most recorded remembered surviving histories.... Perhaps these scaled ones factor in as well, unfortunately without more all we have is a few scraps of lore, supplemented by a growing but halted understanding of the world of dragon age....until the next release of course

Perhaps the prime evil thaig and red lyrium statue have ties to a corruption and if it's old enough perhaps the scaled ones tainted lyrium as by product? My theory: The Scaled Ones, in the far future, develop modern technology and take over all of Thedas using nuclear weapons. Now recall that the krogan supposedly went to war with themselves, plunging Tuchanka into a nuclear winter after the use of nuclear weapons. What if the Scaled Ones are the ancestors of the Krogan and the continent of Thedas is on Tuchanka. Thus, we found the connection between Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

What if there was a war with these lizard people. In trespassers there is this elven person that adopted the qun after his clan was wiped out by dark Spawn and the qunari attack on kirkwall. He tries to recall a poem his mother use to sing to him as a child about a war and driving the stones under ground he thought there was a translation issue and stone was meant to be dwarfs. He thought the Elves drove the dwarfs underground what if it was these creatures that the elves fought and drove underground.
