I like and appreciate how you’re looking out for your viewers by giving them a heads up about Funko sodas. diehard collectors do not buy sealed cans on aftermarket platforms because of what you explained in your video. there are plenty of sodas with no weight differences like glow in the dark chases n there are lots of sodas where there is such a big weight difference you don’t need a scale like when the chase is a completely different mold. there are lots of companies like GameStop, hot topic, FYE and entertainment earth for example where when you buy a sealed soda (that is all they sell) you get an honest chance at the chase. your honesty is commendable, I love that you’re doing the right thing advertising that your sodas will be common but I think your price is a little high for a common, it doesn’t matter if the soda is sealed when everybody knows it’s common, most collectors looking for a common would just buy an open can for less money. I think he has good intentions advertising they are going to be common but he is going to realize they sell for cheaper than what he will be asking. Hard-core collectors like us know it doesn’t make a difference if it’s sealed or not when you know it’s a common. now that they are going to be taking the numbers off of most of the cans I think all the numbered sodas will hold some value even common sodas. keep it Poppin Captain🍾

I tried the weight check and it did work on a couple of my common/chase ones but the one's that are only painted different weight the same. Good example is Goliath.

The first time I heard about using a digital gram scale to find the "chase" was in 1992. Used by a trading card dealer who drove from convenience store to convenience store weighing sealed packs. It's surprising that 0.02 of a gram difference can hit an autographed card. Just the physical ink written on the card is enough to be detectable. An even larger difference is on sketchcards! The slight fluctuation you saw on the other cans can be attributed to the size / cut of the black bag and/or the bubblewrap baggie. Trading card packs don't have that internal variation. Bottomline: There are a variety of tricks to figure out what is inside sealed packaging without damaging the merchandise. Sometimes there are tiny imperfections on packaging during "chase" production [either due to internal factory control measures or use of different equipment separate from the main production]. Could be weight, UV light codes, slightly different text font, and even as simple as touch [trading card use of a different border cut]. Almost everything has a breakable code if you look hard enough and you actually get a "chase" package to examine in detail for future reference.

Its not Funko to blame at all, its people that are taking them out, weighing them, and then lying about it. I've gotten a Funko Pop chase (not soda) from funko.com without any issues, just luck.

I do think some people are doing this-the Carl Fredricksen is an even better example. You don’t even need a scale for that one just your hands-the common is noticeably heavier. I think that’s why I had a hard time finding that one.

I'm guessing you are new to Funko Sodas. I would never suggest buying them through ebay or mecari sealed (unless a sealed case) but try a reputable retailer that sells sodas. Ralphie's Funhouse, Smeye World, VLTD, PopsNSons are all people who sell lots of Funko Sodas that are good. Some sodas don't have any weight difference between chase and common.

some sodas are very similar in weight especially when the moulds are the same and the only difference is metallic. This is very similar to every other sealed collectibles you buy from ebay, its always better to buy from funko or a reputable seller. Neverless great video raising more awareness to ebay Some chases are worth trying to get but this one is too similar to hunt around for, i got one from funko and its the common and it looks great.

I’ve never seen people sell like you’re saying but do see case breaks where there freshly open. Where are you buying single sodas? And the weighing has been known people trying taking scales into stores and get the employees upset at them. Not all sodas weigh different just the separate molds do. Anything on mercari that isn’t a fresh case sealed is a scam I’ve ordered from eBay and Amazon and pulled chases way to smart to order from mercari unless I know it’s a chase or common. It’s mercari common now

Never buy sodas from the secondary market. Straight from funko or buy 6 if it's in a box you will get a chase

You can def weigh the sodas if the mold is Different or it’s flocked. Usually just different colors/metallic/glow plaint Jobs usually are the same size

They probably put the Funko box in another box because they didn't want to ship a box to you with FUNKO plastered all over the box. This way nobody knows what is in the box being sent out and then someone steal it

I bought the USA version Case to get the Chase but then also just wanted the Intl pink can to have, so bought one off eBay for 8.50 and ended up getting the chase. there are a lot of bad people out there but there are some selling legit chances of chases still.

I collect pops but will never collect sodas as I don’t want that “lottery” of not knowing if I’ve got the chase or not! I ain’t wasting my money buying loads of sodas to try & get a chase

Not much different than buying a few pops hoping for a common and a chase. Or you can get the “guaranteed chase bundle” for wayyyy more. For sodas with a case with chase, it’s still just $15 a can, which I enjoy. I’ve seen chalice and other places try and charge arm and a leg to get their exclusive chase with common. I can’t ever recall anywhere you can buy 6 pops for just retail and guarantees a chase.

Very interesting..I buy Funko sodas but it’s rare I would get it from eBay. If I’m lucky to get a chase its fine..I don’t go crazy trying to get one but I had no idea flippers were doing things like this…Once again it makes it hard to enjoy collecting when your odds of getting what you want ends up being triple the price it originally will go for.

It's actually possible to get no chase in a legit case. And if you buy from funko sometimes they don't send a case and you get all commons which happened to me.
