I wish I could be scared by games like I used to be as a kid. I couldn’t get past the intro to Bioshock and Silent Hill 4 because they were too scary. Even encountering the berserker in Gears of War for the first time scared me so bad hearing it running up behind you

Survival Horror is my favorite genre of gaming, and always has been. From the tank control days of Silent Hill and Resident Evil, to the more atmospheric natures of Deadspace and psychological themes of Outlast, I personally think Survival Horror is not only for the faint of heart, the old school horror games just felt adrenaline rushing through and through. Love the videos man! Keep it up!

The sound design in P.T. was so good. I’m not sure, maybe it’s been bettered since, but at the time it tapped into my reptilian brain, my mammal brain, in ways that are difficult to replicate 👻

Been playing Alien Isolation recently and I dunno why but I just don't find it that scary. The two scariest games I've personally played are Cry of Fear and Darkwood. Cry of Fear has a soundtrack with some truly terror-inducing tracks, great monster designs and fantastically scary atmosphere in most locations. Darkwood on the other hand has top tier sound design, beautiful and horrifying art, an intruiging and disturbing plot and a great survival horror gameplay loop where you're managing resources and trying to hide and defend yourself from the creatures that invade your hideouts at night.

I played that game this year on kratom and weed with a friend I lived with lmao. We didn’t finish it and stopped after mission 12-14 or something over a couple of weeks. Alien Isolation is 9/10 but SPOILER Once the Alien is gone for a couple of missions after mission 10 or something, then it drags and gets boring for a tad bid.

Creeps. One of the last times I felt genuinely unnerved by something I played was PT, and that was 10 years ago. The atmosphere, the imagery, the sound,... All of it. Not sure why, but it's hard for me to think of a truly "scary game". I love RE, but I only found the old fixed camera games to be scary. In RE2, the door loading screen for the shed at the police station is the only loading screen in RE history where zombies appear. It's so unexpected and the music fits so well. I'm sure I can think of something more recent, but I can't come up with anything. There are horror games that made me anxious, but I consider that different from an experience that gives me a lasting impression where I want to leave the lights on.

RE7 is scary and it was my first RE game, but I still cannot progress through Silent Hill 1. The pixelation and atmosphere is so unnerving and the gameplay so clunky that I genuinely get anxious playing it. I think it helped that I live streamed RE7 with my friends for the first couple hours when I played it as well with facecam and those are arguably the scariest moments but idk man, those PS1 era games are horrifying to me

My father seems to always laugh when he watches horror films or anything like that. But when a storm rolls in he always gets really scared. Films can be pretty predictable in the horror genre but I'm genuinely curious how he would react playing a horror game.

Personally Bloodborne is the scariest game I’ve played, I feel a game where you are supposed to fight your fears is infinitely scarier than a game where you hide from them, but RE7 is a close second

@@jc-iz8lp The classic Silent Hill games are pretty scary despite being from a fairly zoomed out and often static 3rd person view, not sure why the perspective makes it not scary. It still limits your vision to a cone so you can't see everywhere at once. The sound design and incredibly disturbing art and story also contribute. Been playing Alien Isolation recently and I personally am not finding it as scary as Darkwood or even other indie horror games like Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion and Dead Seater.

I think I found Manhunt to be the most unsettling game I've played. The thing about Manhunt is that it's something that actually can and probably does happen in real life. Monsters and ghosts are just fiction.

Alien Isolation is probably the scariest full game I've played, but PT is by far the scariest experience I've had gaming, nothing compares to the sense of dread I got playing that. Also, Creeps.

Only one super massive game got me scared and it was the devil in me. The scene where Erin is walking on her own with the sound device through the changing corridors. Don't know what was so special about that scene, but it felt like Du Met could show up any minute. I like the super massive games, but I don't think they're scary. Except for that one scene in devil in me.

Outlast, Silent Hill 2 & 3, Until Dawn, and RE 7 all gave me the CREEPS. Even though I think SH2 is the better game, 3 is definitely scarier than 2 in every aspect. I love Until Dawn and really all of Supermassive’s games but yep, UD is their scariest. Resident Evil 7 has to be the scariest one of them all and not only do I agree with that statement for all the reasons you listed, but just take a look at Village, RE8. Sure it had it’s moments but it was nowhere near as scary as 7 was because people played 7 and were genuinely terrified myself included 😂

Most horror games have an easy mode if you're just in it for the creeps. But i find that what really makes the games scary is the limited inventory items and inventory management. Really adds to the dread. Maybe try Resident Evil 1 remake. It's a good classic that's not overly hard on an easier setting but still has a very creepy atmosphere.

I have tried many horror games, but I still can't find any that are scarier than the Silent Hill games. I have only played a little of the 4th game a few years ago, so I can't judge it yet, but I actually think the first 3 games are my top 3 scariest games of all time. Honorable mentions: Resident Evil 1 Remake and a game called 'Ghost Head' which I found out many years later it's the Japanese title for Clock Tower 2 the Struggle Within. It's the only game I didn't finish from the ones I mentioned, but I had no idea it's considered the worst game in the series.

Games played in chronological order: Outlast, Outlast 2, RE7, Visage, RE2, Amnesia Dark Descent, Alien Isolation. Alien is my top pick. Visage can compete with the top dogs but isn't as widely known. Amnesia felt a little dated playing nowadays.

Bit of an unpopular take but the 2 most terrifying games to me arent horror games at all... That title would go to Arma 3 and DayZ for me -DayZ because theres no other game that has me on edge for extended periods of time like when i explore a town, hear a wolf cry in the distance, light a fire or if i cross an open field (this game increases my heartrate above 100 on the regular) -Arma 3 because no game i ever played managed to jumpscare me nearly as hard as that one. My mouse literally went flying off my desk several times when an anti air tank or sniper fired at me and that stupid supersonic crack from the bullet passing by goes off in my headphones even if i saw them aiming at me and i knew it was coming. Its weird because i typically have little to no reaction to jumpscares with games like (RE7/Village, Until Dawn/Hackets Quarry, Outlast, The Evil within, FNAF....) getting a little jolt at best out of me. Oh and honorable mention to Far Cry with its shark/crocodile attack jumpscares those absolutely terrified me back in the days

I’m steeled to scary stuff, sadly. I wasn’t always. However, falling still literally makes my palms sweat. Not in a simple platformer. More like a Soulsbourne. Or, how the outer space section in Borderlands The Pre Sequel wracked my nerves. To this day I’ll get so stressed I have to put down the controller. I will say the last time I got scared in a game was in Fallout New Vegas. I was entering a Vault I had just discovered, west of the strip, in a zone controlled by those Punk Druggies. The loading screen ends, and I’m in a badly lit, decrepit vault entrance. As my eyes are adjusting, I’m spooked by the camera zooming in on a red eyed, smudged faced Mohawk addict who screams profanity, almost as shocked as I am to see her. Whoever that voice actor was deserves a pay raise, cuz she had menacing chaotic evil voice down pat. Also, many of the horror games include gross and revolting stuff, which gets overbearing. I can’t seem to finish Callisto Project because for long stretches I feel like I’m crawling through someone’s cancerous polyp infested sphincter.
