As a person who has the game yes it’s scared me a LOT especially those Leviathan encounters. I had the worst of it when i literally went for a treasure chest in Stellar Basin and the bloody camera panning around at the EXACT MOMENT I saw it’s SPINE just heading towards my boat made me panic so badly though I wished I had that moment recorded for everyone to laugh at

That's pretty strange. I saw it the first time i went into the open sea. I thought that was a scripted event. Or maybe different updates had different percentages of likelihood of it appearing. Oh and i think it's been said it's guaranteed to spawn once if your Panic is high enough (so got to think about it, that one definitely was scripted), that might be why you haven't seen it yet, there's also an event where it just eats you even without going out of bounds.

personally i found that i basically avoided almost every enemy just from the fact i rarely went out at night and always remembered to rest, the only enemies i really encountered was the scripted encounters that you have to do, just trust the villagers bro 💀 (edit: didn’t realise this comment got decently popular, WHOS EXCITED FOR THE DLC HELL YEA)

@@wufflemuffin9197 yea i had to do those, but some of them are optional side quests you don’t have to do them to complete the story, for example the one where you gotta give the lady in gale cliffs a rotten eel, i found that because i played it pretty safe at night (stay close to a dock) i didn’t run into much more than the red mist or the night angler, and i didn’t even get attacked by him till the end game, i had to practically force a leviathan encounter by going out of bounds 💀

You’ll eventually run into it. It spawns randomly around the map every 45 minutes and you’ll hear it’s roar loudly if you’re too far away from it when it spawns and it’ll become very obvious when it spawns near you

The Leviathan Event. That one takes the cake. I do not mean it's sudden jaw attack and escape that you see in this video. There is an event, where it's entire body will wreathe around the surface. It is Dredges biggest enemy event. That was true panic.

i love this game so much! honestly, as someone who grew up on the coast of the atlantic ocean, what scares me most is the stormy weather on the seas, genuinely the way it rocks and gets darker is so, so terrifying. but i never even encountered the leviathan! the angler fish got me on my first playthrough, though, but ive never died in thsi game. i play very safe i guess, lol. speaking of, does anyone else have a name for the big guy in the pit of the stellar basin? me and my friend called him geoffrey and would daredevil race our way over his mouth all the time.

Make sure to create a copy of your save file in a separate folder. It’s super easy to accidentally and unknowingly delete your current game and start a new one in it’s place. There are whole forums dedicated to this and it definitely soured my experience.

I love this game, my favorite scare for me was in my first playthrough. I mostly ignored the story and wasn't trying to progress in it because I was genuinely just enjoying the fishing and exploring aspects and wanted to take my time and upgrade my boat. Due to this I wasn't really seeing many monsters during the day and had gotten used to the angler so my gaurd went down. I liked going long distances and watching the whales and trying to spot the normal sea life along the way. Then as a whale lept above the water as I was accustomed to, BOOM giant tentacle shot up and strangled it pulling it under. Scared me half to death, I thought I was next. The stellar basin also scared me the first time I went through it because I didn't look down and went straight through it, basically whimpered "wHaT is ThAt??" As I pushed through at full speed, thankfully I spent the first part of the game fully upgrading my boat so I could escape. Dredge and Killer Frequency were the best games I bought last year.
