Okay, I'm not seeing anyone else saying this in the comments, so... HUGE TIP: the mind eaters in Twisted Strand can only see movement. If one starts to surface near you, it stays under the water for a moment, and you can use that moment to stop moving. If you stay still or go VERY slowly while one of the heads are up, they won't see you and destroy your Sanity, and will resubmerge after a few seconds, letting you resume travel. There's a couple lines in notes and dialogue that hint towards this, I believe I found out by asking the Airman how he built the traps and he mentioned it. Basically turns the whole area from "try to leave when a head shows up" to "Red Light Green Light" until you just break the traffic light
@ultmateragnarok83763 ай бұрын
Additionally, the Mind Suckers don't actually do any damage to your boat. All they do is immediately max out your panic, which means if you get your panic from another source - such as moving about at night with bad lights, or catching the attention of a miasma patch - the Strand's dangers will come up again, whether the Mind Suckers are still there or not.
@raydhen88402 ай бұрын
Yeah, Twisted Strand ended up become the safest map, not only the eldritch threat can be permanently killed, even avoiding them is no big deal as long as you treat them like traffic light.

Though you mentioned one in Gale Cliffs describing the serpent's formation, there are quite a few more obelisks around the map, each with their own unique vision revealed when panicked. Generally each region will have two, though some exceptions exist. There are three which tie for my favorites - one in the destroyed resort in Stellar Basin, detailing a massive wave sweeping the inhabitants out to sea in the night; one in the Devil's Spine, which depicts the leviathan craning itself out of the water and all the way up to the level of the mountaintop lighthouse in the region, and crooning some strange song to it before returning to the deep; and one in the Pale Reach, which describes how the near-dead god frozen in the ice was fragmented in an unfathomable battle in the deep, meaning whatever precisely that creature is, it lost to something stronger. Indeed, the leviathan appears to be some balancing force of nature (though perhaps uncaring of being a force of 'good' as we understand it) rather than as malevolent as most else in the game. It is the only creature in the game unaffected by banishment, implying a differing origin, and is seen in very particular places. It hems the fisherman into the area, invariably attacking should he attempt to leave the region altogether. It stalked another boat seeking to deliver a package to Little Marrow, a package which though with unknown contents was clearly shown to be connected to the abberations, and which changed the dockworker in a clearly negative way. It even is described as seeming satisfied by the ancient lighthouse when it remained on, the very same lighthouse which is depicted to have once driven back the entity from the Collector's ending in the paintings below it, until its destruction. And, in the recent trailer for The Iron Rig, the Leviathan sought to stop the progress of Ironhaven from researching and attempting to exploit the abberations the area suffers from. In the good ending for the game, it serves to reclaim the fisherman for the sea, as he would not have survived the dredging of the Book of the Deep if not for its own meddling. Though whether a good thing or not, it cannot fight that being from the ending on its own.

Great video, I really liked its structure, and the cinematography, if that's how it's called, was pretty sick. My only slight issue is that sometimes it felt like you were rushing through the script. It might be just me, idk. Besides that, amazing video. Can't wait for more 😊
@CosmicHours6 ай бұрын
fantastic feedback, thank you! I spend ages trying to get the free cam to work for the game so I could have cinematic shots for the video. I can see why some of the script felt rushed, it's the first video and in the back of my mind I was constantly scared people would find it boring, sometimes I might have tried to rush through a chapter to have new environments and enemies that felt fresh in the next one

u failed to mention that leviatan eats you if you try to leave the map (not the object, playable area) perhaps it recognises you as one trying to wake cthulhu, another person mentioning leviatan is a guy who was trying to deliver package, pacckage ultimetly turns docker into lifless zombie, so leviatan was maybe trying to prevent this
@Caspianm23 ай бұрын
((Spoilers)) This makes sense too, because in the "good ending" where you discard the book for good, it eats your entire boat along with the book. Some of the stones in the game describe two ancient beings battling, and one lost and was sealed deep beneath the waves, the red madness along the surface being described as parts of it's spirit trying to come back. I think the leviathan was one of these two titans and the colossal being we see in the "bad ending" was the second, hence the leviathan trying to prevent it coming back. You can encounter the leviathan when wandering the open ocean too, and it just goes its own way without aggression unless you try to leave.

Excellent coverage of what is easily one of the best games of the year 2023 and easily one of the most unique, well-designed, artful, and downright fun to play games I’ve personally enjoyed in the past decade. I like how you covered each area and how their individual nuances keep the relatively simple gameplay loop fresh and challenging. I also, love your comparison to Mario 64. The eel moment is a great microcosm of exactly what Dredge is all about. If we get a sequel, I’d LOVE to see areas where you can go into an old-fashioned diving suit and explore the sea floor on foot, limited of course by the oxygen cable to the boat. I feel that would only further encourage exploration and charging headstrong into the unknown.

We get a bit more context of the game in The Iron Rig DLC. but at the same time, it leaves more questions than answers. but your final postulation of the Leviathan being a protector is all but confirmed in that one. and the Kraken/ tentacles are its enemy, extensions of that cosmic horror.

Bro I learnt many things I didn't know about the game after playing for a considerable amount of time. Also, there is one thing you missed to point out. Sometimes, when that night angler appears, our character automatically sets off the lights of the boat. At first, I thought it happens due to the nature of weather, but one day I saw the angler when the light went off. But it wasn't until this happened like for 3-4 times I actually realised that.

Long time sub of your other channels here. First, congrats on the new channel! Great quality of video as always. Second, I love the script, however, I do have some suggestions on your video. Personally, across the video, you make many valid point and observation of the game mechanics, storytelling and story (which is great). But my problems is that you don't spend a lot of time showing the viewers and allow them to experience what you are telling. The pacing in your talk is quite... rapid? Make the gameplay doesn't really stick with me. I would love more "showing instead of telling" here. To achieve that, I would suggest more moment of silence, reduce the pacing of your script, showing the atmosphere of the game (sounds and musics), or maybe even you being terrified (like that one time you meet Leviathan). With all that being said, this is just my personal opinion and I wish you the best! 💪

There seems to be two kinds of people when it considers the horror's that are indifferent. For some people it's scary that the universe and large things are indifferent to your existence but to the optimistic nihilist (including me) this is the other way around. It's complete liberation. If the universe or large unknown forces don't care what you're doing, it means you can do what YOU want to do. (I mean if they don't accidentally destroy you in the proces). The things that scare me the most are forces that are stronger than you that actually have it out for you. Now some people are unable to handle this responsibility and I struggle with it myself sometimes, but i'd have that over any force that wanted something of me, or had it out for me.
