The lesson on passivity the game explores is very insightful. Speaking out causes people to become wary of you, but keeping your head down and conforming gives you social camouflage. Morals are eroded by the desire to fit in, and the desire to avoid personal loss to yourself can be strong enough to make you look the other way when you _do_ know better, as demonstrated in the ending. And this is reflected in many communities both in real life and online, where it can be genuinely safer to your image to just lurk around and say nothing, instead of bringing attention to yourself and maybe convincing people you might be something they want to get rid of. The ones who suspect you pull out their tools for destruction, the ones who sympathize stay quiet, not wanting to join you on the cross; your voice, the only one crying out in protest. Honestly, a surprising and deep study on human psychology from this kawaii game.

Apathy never has anything positive tied to it. What really got me and made me back off from *His* domain for a good ending on my first blind playthrough was the veil of deception it placed upon your chosen lover (Leb, in my case). The lack of informed consent on their part, their complete disillusionment from the reality of the situation and thus inability to talk out any of it with Elise, the hollow look in their eyes in their dialog art...it all felt horribly wrong. So when I got the chance to back away instead, to finally have Elise realize what she already had...I took it. And was rewarded with their good ending, which was a heart-warming treat. However, I did want to see the 'real' climax, so I did go for an ending going through with it...but with Rozenmarine. All her talk of fate and destiny, her seeming knowledge of the inner workings of these things--Hell, at one point she literally says 'I'd love to be your Good Company!' It made it, on the surface, somewhat easier to stomach. When I was given the option to speak up, however...hoping against hope, I took it, but alas...I saw what that got me, and that the real end of it required inaction. Then and *only* then did I let it happen. Rozmarine's partial contentment with it, her yowling about fate and destiny as she was ripped apart, made it both worse and better at the same time somehow. I do think it was worth seeing the 'canon' ending that leads to Pocket Mirror. To see the fullness of the consequences of Elise seeing the deal through...but I still don't feel great about it. It's an incredible magic trick this game pulls off.
@kymo6343Ай бұрын
Same to this. The glazed eyes are sus with all the girls but especially with Lebkuchen bc she's supposed to be so incredibly perceptive. For her to be completely taken by the spell esp made it feel like some kind of magical roofie or smth. Rozenmarine was also the only one I could bring myself to do it to. And I feel like if the story were "real" that'd be the case with Elise too. I don't think she could do it to Freya or Leb bc they were friends for years, but Rozenmarine, she just showed up last week and she's weird af and constantly getting me in trouble... And if Elise had confusing feelings for her too, that would probably just annoy her and make her want to throw her to a demon even more. XD

This game unlike other game tortures you for your choices you have the choice to speak your mind when it came to the villagers but when it really matters you chose to stay silent..... I do really like the twist that your character was the good one all along, really innovative. And "How Societies Turn Cruel": inaction at injustices, then as those injustices increase, you stick with inaction because to fight against it would mean coming to grips with your previous inaction and to risk retaliation from not only the inciters (like the priest or Him) but those caught in the loop of inaction, partially because your action reminds them of their own complicity

Each man thought: one of the others is bound to say something soon, some protest, and then I'll murmur agreement, not actually say anything, I'm not stupid as that, but definitely murmur very firmly, so that the others will be in no doubt that I thoroughly disapprove, because at a time like this it behooves all decent men to nearly stand up and be almost heard... No one said anything. The cowards, thought each man.” "Down there," he said, "are people who will follow any dragon, worship any god, ignore any inequity. All out of a kind of humdrum, everyday badness. Not the really high, creative loathsomeness of the great sinners, but a sort of mass-produced darkness of the soul. Upon playing this game, my very first impression of Elise was basically Usagi or Serena(?) from Sailor Moon (old not new); she's brash, full of herself and rather stuck up at times. But behind that is a kind hearted girl that's just tired and wants what's best for herself. I didn't fully quite grasp this while playing the game but when I watched Michaela law's playthrough, I realized that those selfish desires of Elise are pretty justified; the townsfolk suck (excluding Freya and her dad, Lebchuchen and the widow woman with two children and the guy who lost his horses) and are kinda stupid. Micheala points out how ridiculous the townsfolk are acting when something goes wrong. Take the two storms that take place. What the folks in Kieferburg thought was the work of witchcraft was merely just the weather acting up in change of the seasons. While yes, certain events are consequences of going along the path to grant Else's wish, a majority of them are either normal of nature or orchestrated by a certain person. SPOILER WARNING ⚠️⚠️⚠️ If you follow the notes and clues you find throughout the game and reach the day of the festival, go into the church and into the priest's room and find a trap door. Down there, you find out that it was the priest that was causing all the trouble in the village; the horses disappearing, widow's goats becoming sick and dying via beheading one of them, the blockage of the fountain, and KIDNAPPING A CHILD AND DELIVERED SAID CHILD TO THE WOODS LEAVING HIM FOR DEAD. Why? Because he knew Elise's true beginnings and what she has been doing. That bald sonovabitch has caused so much grief in the name of God just to prove that Elise and her grandmother were witches (Granny confessed on her death bed to the priest).
