The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne chapter 19, narrated by Isaac Birchall
Pear is very wary of coming too much closer to her Parents, and only stands on the other side of the brook with her finger pointed towards Hester’s chest. Finally, Hester gets up and pins the Scarlet Letter back to her chest, transforming her back into her sad self. Following this, Pearl joins her mother on the other side of the brook. Hester encourages Pearl to hug the minister, but does not reveal that the man is her father. Pearl does notice however that something has happened between the two, and ask if the minister will walk hand in hand with them back to the settlement ; on his refusal, Pearl instantly changes moods, and becomes cold towards the minister.
