Colleen Moore stars as Hester Prynne in this 1934 version of Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic tale of sin and redemption! Bearing a child out of wedlock was punishable in 17th century Massachusetts by being forced to wear a scarlet letter 'A,' but unwed mother Hester, who was born to a noble family, is determined to rise above her situation. Hardie Albright, Alan Hale, and William Farnum also star for director Robert G. Vignola, while the recreation of old Puritan Boston was by art director Frank Dexter (Baby Face Morgan, Northwest Trail).

COLLEEN MOORE's performance in this " sound " picture is as good as any other's. Her career petered out after the advent of sound, like so many of her contemporaries , but she performed perfectly well here. Glad that this film remains. Thanks for posting.

Collen Moore, born Kathleen Morrison. I do not think we are related but I like her as an actress. A friend (intimate at one point) to director King Vidor who directed her in Sky Pilot (1920 silent). She was also close to silent film comic star Harold Lloyd, a fellow conservative Republican and investor.
