I have a modern issue of the Zodiac Olympos, black dial, and I simply love it. That manta ray case is very unique, and IMO the overall quality is consistent with a watch many times its value!

This reminds me of the Longines I inherited from my grandfather. 33 mm 14 karat solid gold cased by wittenauer of New York but has a sub second hand at 6 o clock. It has a gold linen dial in a 17 Jewel 370 movement. It's what got me addicted to watches. LOL

True fact. I still absolutely love Zodiac watches. But mainly collect autos. I do have 2 quartz watches as well. The Desert Hawk chrono is actually a really nice watch..the Zodiac Calame auto chrono is a very nice watch. I have a limited Oceanaire all black auto. It is a nice watch no matter what folks say about them..

Had a few vintage zodiacs . Had a triple date moon phase, a aerospace gmt ( the black blue grey bezel original), and aerospace jet 24hr dial. All very cool and well done ...the sleeper among the 3 was the aerospace jet 24hr dial...great dial and unique.

I would buy another vintage and have it serviced before I buy a new zodiac. I found a 70 square mystery dial in 90 at a estate sale for 60bux. I have never serviced it. I wear it occasionally for 30 years when I don't have a fone around. The second dot doesn't move perfectly smooth but it only loses a minute a day. The watch guy serviced it for 250. It's worth a few k and he said it was so rare he personally wouldn't wear. Well I love that the face isn't so big. Anyway I will buy a couple seiko automatic for more frequent wear.

The zodiac is actually the band that the planets travel in. Plato and other earlier astronomers figured this out and they were also the basis for early occult thought practices. That’s a super abridged version, but the naming makes sense in that respect. There is a connection!

Great video, it's nice to see a watch review that doesn't take it all so seriously! Whatever people think of Fossil they have looked after Zodiac very well IMO. Zodiac seems to sit in a similar space to Mido and Certina in offering well made value for money Swiss watches for those who want something from Switzerland but who don't want to pay $$$$$$$$$$$$s for brand image and bragging rights.

A letter sent to the Riverside Police Department from Bates's killer was typed with a Royal typewriter with an Elite type, the same brand found during the February 1991 search of Allen's residence. He owned and wore a Zodiac brand wristwatch. He lived in Vallejo and worked minutes away from where one of the first victims (Ferrin) lived and from where one of the killings took place.[92]"

Had a 60's era Zodiac Sea Wolf and my wife currently wears a 60's era ladies orange face Astrographic mystery dial SST. The automatic movement is precise and robust but the mystery dial disks are milky making it difficult to tell time and enjoy the bright orange dial. Beautiful mid century designed watch overall from an established old Swiss watch company and now noticing vintage Zodiacs climbing in price. Perhaps approaching a good restoration to match values.

I'm certain the Hermetic name refers to the "tightness" of the watch, not the occult reference. The fish on the back symbolize the astrological sign pisces - the name Zodiac refers to astrology and this was incorporated in the company branding.
