In Japan, the Flatwoods Monster is a "default" design for an "alien", much like how in the USA and in many other places in the world the "default" alien design is a "Grey" (the Grey is also equally well known in Japan). This is odd because the case happened in the USA yet the alien design is arguably more well known in Japan. People all over the world claimed to have seen F\Greys but the Flatwoods Monster incident is the only time that kind of creature was seen. I think this is because the incident was made widely known through UFO magazines & television shows in Japan, whereas in the USA it's more localized for the average person unless you're into the UFO-paranormal subject and discover it on your own, for the most part. Furthermore, whilst the aliens themselves are based on the Flatwoods Monster, the events on the ranch with multiple aliens sieging a farmstead more resembles the Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter. Side note: You show two depictions of the Flatwoods Monster in the vid. The sketch depicting the monster with antennae instead of arms, and the overall design looking more mechanical, is actually the more accurate depiction. The depiction where it looks like a strange floating creature with arms and a skirt is based on a sketch that the witnesses claimed was partially incorrect, as the sketch artist misunderstood a few things; the witness said the lower conical part was "pleated like a skirt" and the artist decided to literally draw a skirt, and somehow misinterpreted horizontal antennae as arms with claws. Unfortunately this is the more well-known depiction.

Thanks for this great comment! I'm a huge UFO guy myself, been fascinated by the subject for years. I considered addressing the Kelly-Hopkinsville "goblins" as another inspiration but ultimately decided to focus on this single event. As I recall, the more famous sketch of the Flatwoods Monster was made for a CBS special called "We the People" and was drawn live on-air and, as you mentioned, misinterpreted a number of details. Unfortunately, I misremembered and stated that the clawed hands were described by the witnesses, which they were not. The more accurate drawing was done by Frank Feschino when he sat down with Fred May to get the most detailed depiction he could. Absolutely love this case and I'm glad to meet someone else with an interest in it! Also, do you happen to know the names of those Japanese shows that popularized the Flatwoods Monster there? Would love to see if I could hunt them down.

@@Retroatron I really don't remember specifics, just something in the ballpark of Japanese UFO media making the case well-known. It may have primarily been magazines, I feel like it started as late as the 80's because there's at least one 8-bit game that has the Flatwoods Monster as a boss or enemy. By the way, it's called the "3 Meter Tall Alien" (3メートルの宇宙人) in Japan.

The Flatwoods Monster. An oldy but a goodie! I might need to make a very long playlist for tonight! First off, every single THEY/THEM/Flatwoods Monster theory on Majora's Mask. Then Gemini Home Entertainment, and finally the good oldies of top Scary Easter Eggs in Video Games from Tats TopVideos. And I'll see about what else I can add from there.

A man of culture! That TatsTopVideos video is a staple for me too! And you must be a Nexpo fan, his video on Gemini was great.

@@Retroatron Well I wasn't exactly or directly hinting at Nexpo, which is where I found Gemini Home Entertainment, but yeah I plan on watching his full length video over it.

Just discovered something interesting, the Flatwoods Monster has an appearance in the 3DS game Tomodachi Life! It can be found in the “Mystery” themed room. I guess Nintendo just really liked that story.

Waking up to a new Retroatron upload is the biggest W Also as a side note I’ve seen the image of the Flatwoods Monster before, I assumed it was something made to look like the Majora’s Mask aliens. I had no idea “they” were inspired by something else!

Hey, Joe! Thanks for letting me use your Final Hours remix! That's interesting that you'd seen the monster before, it's a more obscure piece of folklore nowadays, but nonetheless fascinating.

If this had been real they would have probably seen either a robot or an alien in a space/hazmat/something suit.
@Retroatron2 жыл бұрын
If you believe in that sort of thing! Many other explanations have been given (it was an owl, it was an experimental airplane flown by military personnel in suits, etc.), but this actually wasn't an isolated incident. Another person in a neighboring county reported seeing a similar creature, and others across the state reported seeing red "meteors" that night as well. It's a very interesting folktale, whatever it may have been!
@waterisaneurotoxin77882 жыл бұрын
@@Retroatron Yeah I was going off description of thing.
@milestone380 Жыл бұрын
More than likely an alien. A robot would have made alot more noise as it came towards the group and the only sound reported made by the creature was a hiss that the group heard as it came towards them. Unfortunately, what they actually saw isn't as exciting. The light they first saw going across the sky was a meteor (it was also seen in Maryland and Pennsylvania that night), the red pulsing lights were from an aircraft beacon (there was an airfield nearby) and the monster itself was a barn owl that got spooked when the group shined the flashlight at it and was defending itself. Interestingly too, after the story broke, some other townsfolk went to the same location a few days later hoping to see the "monster". While they didn't see it, they noticed impressions in the soil, the same smell the initial group encountered and a weird residue that felt like rubber, thus giving more mystery and intrigue to the folklore
