One day a few years back I was taking a leisurely drive around the Westport, Connecticut shoreline. Just after passing the entrance road to "Longshore Country Club", I came upon a rotary ahead. In the center of this circular grassy esplanade was THAT ACTUAL STATUE!!! I stopped and photographed it, and noticed by the commemorative plaque that it had been dedicated waaaaaay before "I Love Lucy" 💘 had ever aired... 💋

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG! "I Love Lucy" was never canceled. Desilu had decided to discontinue the production of the half-hour episodes of "I Love Lucy" at the conclusion of the 1956-57 season. CBS was disappointed (BUT DID NOT CANCEL!), but was left with no alternative but to consider Desi's "new" idea: a once-monthly, hour-long comedy show that the Cuban determined would cost $250,000 per program. The "The Ricardos Dedicate a Statue," WAS NOT "The scene that took 'I Love Lucy' off the air!" It WAS only the last episode of the 1956-57 season. Nothing more, nothing less. The hour-long "Lucy Takes a Cruise to Havana," (Episode aired Nov. 6, 1957), picks up where the half hour shows left off. Still living in Connecticut, just an hour-long version. "I Love Lucy" carried on with 13 hour-long episodes till 1960. "I Love Lucy" was NEVER canceled!

Well let's face it the whole show I Love Lucy was about Lucy. She was what made the show funny she was the star although the cast and supporting characters were fine. It was really Lucy who was the show itself. Without Lucy the show couldn't have made it so it made sense that she would go on. I still think she's the funniest female comedian I've ever seen

‘’Series finales’’ weren’t really considered until the 1970s (more or less) mainly because shows were usually cancelled in the summer during production hiatuses. The Enterprise didn’t complete its mission; the Robinsons are still lost in space etc. The first finale I can think of is the one for ‘’The Mary Tyler Moore Show’’ .’’The Golden Girls’’ where Dorothy is married off and ‘’M.A.S.H’’ are others. Practically required these days, especially for long-running ones.

This video did give good information though about the show and her other shows. All of them lasting 6 seasons. That's beautiful. And now I know the name of the movie that she played in where it was dramatic and she played someone homeless. I saw a interview that she did about that. She said it was very very hot and that noone recognized her. She does look very different from the scene you showed of her in the movie.

That was so funny. They were both shoving the candy in their mouths. Lucy using both hands.The chewing couldn' t happen fast enough. Lucy' s eyes got so big. That' s what it' s like to work on a conveyor belt in a factory. You must keep up. Then there was another episode where they were stomping down grapes, (probably for wine), in their bare feet. That was funny too. Good comedy!!

The other lucy shows really didn't have the same appeal as I love lucy did. They were ok but they tried to enter Gale Gordon as the penny pincher as Desi Arnaz did. Things were a cheaper back then is what saves you money if you don't spend as much. They made him too tight with though. It was never told as how her left to her, and how much she was allowed to spend at one time. 😁. I thought funny as when she asked for 5.00 dollars and acted as if it would break her. My mother was about the same way. 😉

I didn't like any of Lucy's series. The character Lucy was a lousy friend, difficult spouse, and VERY hard of listening to her friends and spouse. Lucy herself, now - she was a great friend, spectacular businesswoman, and we owe a lot to her. Desi, too, while he had problems, is largely underappreciated - he also was a good producer, his kids adored (still adore) him, and he actually invented the rerun - without him, "I Love Lucy" would not be appearing somewhere in the world even as I type. "The Dick Van Dyke Show" was a far better show with spouses and friends listening to and respecting each other, not trying to put something over on the others. They were much nicer people and I preferred watching them.
