While I enjoy the interviews with the drivers, I enjoy more the interviews of the guys that worked behind the scenes. These are the guys that sacrificed greatly for their passion for racing and quiet often received little or no recognition. Where would Petty, Earnhardt or Gordon be without these dedicated people. These guys need to be recognized and y’all are doing it. Thanks 🙏

I really liked that era in nascar. Was a huge Ricky fan and liked fatback as a crew chief. Both guys are class acts.

That made my day when he said he was going beat Harvick's fuckin ass in victory lane and then after Rudd passed him back, he retold the official to disregard of what he originally wanted to do to Harvick after the race.

Fatback is by far the best scene vault interview. All the details he adds makes it. He was always one of my favorite crew chiefs. Greatly miss this era in nascar

Great interview! Being a Rudd fan I was hoping he would have gone more into if the Yates offer was because Ricky requested him. Those 2 were great together, I feel like Rudd wanted Fatback to get the opportunity and boy did he do a great job. They should have won 5 or 6 races a year in the 28

I was a huge Rudd ran, and those years in the 28 were some of the most exciting Sundays I had in my life. I remember after that Richmond race the reporter asked him how he didn't crash when Harvick got into him, and Ricky replied "i'm just that good" LOL I loved it!

I loved Rudd and followed him a long time. Really enjoyed his time with Fatback, who I thought was a loyal and very solid crew chief. They came close to a title but just couldn't get over the hump. They nonetheless had some nice success at Yates. And Ricky drove two of the best paint schemes ever with Tide and Havoline!

I remember the Cale situation he's talking about. There was a guy named Burdette who was supposed to buy the team and that fell apart. Mast was there. Then Cale closed up and a guy named McPherson was supposed to buy the team and that fell apart too. Then Cale was completely done.

I gotta stop it at 28:00. This is a special race for me. I happened to be visiting my dad and we had the Richmond race on. When this punk new kid Harvick bumped Ricky, I told my dad, you watch this, that boy done messed up. Sure enough, you know what happened LOL! It was a good time with my dad and being from Virginia, just loved Ricky. Dad's been gone a couple years now, but I just remember, it was one of the good times which were fewer than the rest.

There used to be drivers that were characters in their own right before the 'cookie cutter' template guys today but behind the scenes there were a lot more real characters in the pits and shops. I still tell stories from crewing on short track late models in the 70's.

After one of his victories with Rudd, Fatback said "That old Rooster is crowin' today"!
@dylanwatson12873 жыл бұрын
Fatback is a badass in a good way! I hope Dale Jr. will invite him to his show so he can tell the same story about how he wanted to kick Harvick's ass in victory lane at Richmond 2001 but Rudd took the lead back and won instead. That was hilarious especially when Rick started dying laughing!

How bout pass along a message to Fatback.... there's a wealthy individual out west thats waiting for the perfect time to enter the sport as owner. See if he thinks he can find enough folks to start a two to four car program. Money is NOT an issue and sponsorship wont be necessary. See if this is what he's been waiting for. If so, please get back to me.
