Remember watching this back in 2010 when it was on tv. Few sad updates. Marion Cree died in 2016 from an astma attack. Wee steven also died in 2014 after he refused treatment for kidney disease, poor libby 😢. Annie caddis ( Chris's mum) had both her legs and 1 arm amputated in 2018 due to sepsis. Bullet the dog was hit by a car and had a leg amputated. Marvin and Danya split up and are both in out of trouble.

Thankfully, the dutiful families ( including the Crees mentioned ) who were committed to restore a community spirit did succeed in reopening the premises next to the local Quickstore. It became a community centre for the decent folk of Kilmarnock. The centre, serving as a community hub, is still in place today and doing well.. ( though shut down due to covid lockdown at this stage.)

I pray that the family's mum who passed away from cancer and that she is resting in peace shining her Eternal Light down on her family who loved their dear sweet mum so much. Her family is working so hard for her dream to open up this community center and I just hope that it is now up and running nine years later and that things are great for them they seem like such a lovely family sticking together doing what their mum would want and that's a wonderful thing and you can't ask for more then that. Because the community center would help a whole lot of people so yeah I wish them all the best.

Pisses me off the ones that are kind and decent to others with the community centre are getting messed about by the council, they’d offer rent as they know it’ll cost a fortune to fix. They’ll reclaim the property or sell it off after their contractors have lined their pockets, same level of corruption here and almost everywhere else. Oatridge College near me has a Principal who has all his buddies get the contracts for such things as painting the dorms, costs £3,600 per unit each year, they of course do one days ‘work’ (i.e. paint a couple of window ledges and scuffed walls) fucking hate the thieving slimy bastards, they should be stealing from these junkies instead, at least it will save them from smack and give the good people an opportunity to do something positive which is all they’re asking.

Scheme in English is also a noun meaning “ large systematic plan”. In Scotland these types of areas became known as “schemes” as they were the housing scheme (large systematic plan ) of local government or councils in the area and were mostly built in the 50’s and 60’s following world war 2. They are also called council estates . This particular scheme was clearly an abject failure. They weren’t all as bad . I’m not entirely sure but I think the equivalent in America would be “the projects “. Hope this clears things up .

The underclass. Unskilled, uneducated, massively dysfunctional: repeating the cycle . There are less & less unskilled jobs for these people, whereas back in the day , way less automated factories would have provided income & stability.
