As much I loved the underlying saphic tenshion of their friendship, it was definitely hinted at since book one that their parents had a history together, which relates to them being sisters, like how callis said agathas father made a sacrifice for her, or the refrence to witch trials, or how callis said sophies dad had to pay a big price

It absolutely bamboozles me that a gay man wrote this series. When I read the first and second book, I was half convinced Chainani was homophobic. I never finished the series, though. Does the hetero-ness of the books ever get toned down?

There's two gay couples in all but name later, sadly, I think all are only implied. On top of that, the probably gay prof.Dovey and Lady Lesso, who canonically are 'best friends.' When Lesso was murdered, Dovey killed the murderer. Very sapphic.
