@@lostingames5657 Fear of death is scientifically proven to give access to your maximum conditional capacity. Condition describes thereby describes the interplay of strength, speed, stamina and in a wider understanding flexibility. So unleashing this fear could theoretically push an athlete to shatter that 2h mark or the 9 sec. barrier at the 100m dash. However the ethics involved obivously prohibit such an experiment

Dude wtf, 2 hour marathon is running 13 mph for 2 hours. An average person that's starting in cycling with a nice bike would probably average about 15 mph on a BIKE. The every day person riding a bike would probably average 12-13 mph on a BIKE. He did that on his feet running. That's insane.

MotherEric those swimsuits actually caused supercavitation, as in they displaced water and surrounded swimmers in a thin layer of air. As long as the shoes doesn't increase the runner's strength or change air pressure, it will be fine.
@mothereric8774
@mothereric8774 7 жыл бұрын
I know the whole pressure/fluid dynamics thing is different, but what about the "springiness" of the internal plates of the shoes for lack of a better word?
@mothereric8774
@mothereric8774 7 жыл бұрын
I think the suits also impacted buoyancy. And the compressive areas around muscle groups were stroke specific meaning the suits were only used for one type of races (i.e freestyle or breaststroke not both). It really is an interesting read if you have the time.
@lvbuckeye
@lvbuckeye 7 жыл бұрын
MotherEric springiness in shoes can't compare with the springiness in an actual foot. There's a reason that Nike/Adidas/Saucony, etc always endorse Kenyan runners: because the Kenyans have been running barefoot since birth.

The needed more than 3 athletes trying to break 2. On race day A LOT can go wrong. You can have the science down but the athletes body may just not have it on the day of. If they had a group of 9-12 trying to break 2 I believe they would have been able to accomplish it.
@donnas7240

Alexis Romero they only used three runners because there aren't enough runners who would ever be capable of a sub two marathon, they would be a waste of time and money to train with.
@johnrichy2k6
@johnrichy2k6 7 жыл бұрын
Would also be a lot harder to get the same levels of aerodynamics with a pack of runners that size, maybe if they'd ran several tests with 3 different runners each time but it was probably awfully expensive to train just 3 never mind quadrupling the budget to train 12
@alexisromero3414

Donna S there are many more athletes that are capable of it. But on the day of, like I said, a lot can go wrong. I'm sure now that they know what they need to do, they'll give it another shot but with more athletes. Either that or keep on trying with different groups of 3. To be completely honest tho, money isn't an issue with Nike.. they have all the funds. And now that all the experimenting is done (with the Vaporfly 4%) that's funds now available to train the athletes.

Eliud Kipchoge is probably the fastest marathon runner in the world. It's doubtful anyone could have run faster than him on that day. Dennis Kimetto and Emmanuel Mutai were close to Kipchoge, but on the decline by the time Breaking 2 was launched. Wilson Kiprotich and a few others probably could have been close, but drafting and giving supplies for more than 3 guys would be difficult. Though I'm not sure why they picked Lelisa Desisa for the project. He's amazing but there's definitely a few guys faster than him.

Kirk Meyers technically yes but the racetrack meant that they could provide a lot more consistent nutrition/hydration and pacers throughout the course... aswell as the fact that would of had to find a 26 mile straight stretch of road that was as flat as the track that fell in a region with the desirable temperature and that could be closed for the day to allow for the experiment to take place... Monza is a generally pretty long flowing track in terms of corners which would mean the speed difference into the corners will be negligible compared to if they were tight bends..

Even with all the advancements in technology and nutrition, no one has been able to break the 2 hr barrier. This tells me the determining factor in doing this has to be mental. It takes a particular psychological advantage to overcome the final obstacle in accomplishing this incredible feat.

Barefoot running is superior which is one reason why the Kenyans are good runners in the first place. There’s a natural spring in the arch of the foot. They only wear the shoes to get sponsorships
@king_has_no_clothskul8635
@king_has_no_clothskul8635 4 жыл бұрын
this is utter nonsense. shoes wont help you break records. one guy ran marathon barefoot with 2 hours 6 minutes more than 25 to 30 years ago. so the ability of the runner decides the timing and not the shoes. I am sure that same guy today would breach 2 hour, with better training and diet. And BAREFOOT! kip is a great runner shoes or not. he trains at high altitude(8500 feet. that is lot of height), so naturally you have advantage when you run at sea-level or nearby. he is promoting as he has sponsorship. inherently he knows they dont make him the greatest. barring cushioning rest is all pure gimmick. THE KENYANS,UGANDANS, SOMALIANS ETC ETC are great runners due to their training and approach to the game: just like swedes churned out tennis players like nothing happens. And spain produced clay champions( can anybody beat nadal?). And out of nowhere you have a SERB MACHINE called JOKO! BOLT would run under 10 even without shoes on those world class smooth fibre track! shoes hardly matter there. because marathons are run on those roads, the pounding is a huge issue. Hence a thick and flexible shoes is all you need. there is no need to go gaga and shelve 250 to 500 bucks for the shoes. MOFOS just run. any shoe would do with decent cushioning! I just ran 23 kms other day in 2 hours( for the first time in my life at 46 with low budget shoes), I was not thinking about shoes! I just ran like a hungry DOG! And made it! SO BOTTOM LINE: it is not the size of the dog in a fight that counts. it is size of the fight in the dog that counts! AKA it i not the shoe of the runner that counts. it is runner of the shoes that counts! now get the eff out of here!

It´s 2019, almost 2020 and America doesn´t manage it to switch to the metric system. :D dafuq is 55°, what is 11 mph ... the rest of the world thinks logic, please give us usable information. 1 km is 1000 meters, 1 meter is 1000 mm. As easy as that. water freezes at 0°C, water boils at 100°C.

Nike didnt spend millions of dollars doing research on this. They have team design shoes to sell to public but let their guys wear first to promo. Paid for science stuff of h2o , PC graphic etc which any body can do at sport medicine clinic for 2-300$ Then they ask and paid these guys maybe roughly 200k each to train for this event. Paid for track and stuff that's about it. Guys did training on there own. Nike full of shyt. I'm in the business. Well there competitor.

PEOPLE! always try to pick which of who to credit. Hes with nike meaning they are a TEAM. If Nike does good then he will praise Nike and if he does good then nike will praise him. So why are people splitting the 2 when a team is 1. Imagine spending millions of dollars on someone to help them achieve their goals then that person only gets all the credit once the goal is accomplished. Come on people! Edit: shoes do play a part for comfort and stability for him to stay in the race. Those shoes were specialized for him. Just like with anything. You dont just go buy clothes because they are clothes. You buy because of the brand or the product or both. If he did not need nike then he would not wear their shoes or associate with them. Seems like outsiders are more concerned than he is.
