OMG! What did you boys DO to your friend that she ended up serving you vinegar??? did you forget to feed her cat? lol... Once again, informative, funny, and charming. But the mango wasn't fair -that's not a common enough flavor for you to identify. Did you use some kind of rinse in between tastes to clear your palate?
@evasofia073 жыл бұрын
mango is so common... maybe thats just where i live
@DrWh1teCat10 жыл бұрын
I liked to you explained that taste and flavour were not the same thing. I have to explain that pretty frequently when people find out that I'm anosmic (unable to smell) and immediately jump to the conclusion that I can't taste.
@CatBarefield9 жыл бұрын
You guys are so cute! That's my favorite video you've made ahahah. I have a question related to the senses of smell and taste: I normally have a much harder time guessing what a food/beverage is based on the taste than on the smell. For example, taste tests are hard, but when I smell something cooking, I can tell pretty easily what it is. Why is that? Cheers from Montreal!
@BlankBlanks8 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty good at guessing by taste and smell. But i get you because I'm the same. I personally think that you have a great memory on the smell of the food that you can name it and taste the food without eating it.
@lotsalot8 жыл бұрын
I think it's because your sense of smell is the most memorable sense. Your brain remembers smells more easily than tastes, so you remember how things smell easily.
@wondersofscience26785 жыл бұрын
When you eat food 25% of food gets stuck on your taste buds and 75% travel up your mouth to the back of your nose aka the olfactory receptors. I’m the same as you, which sucks because sometimes when people fart, it goes up to your olfactory receptors making you be able to taste the fart.

In AP Psych class we did a Taste Test. We took a starburst blindfolded or with our eyes closed and unpeeled in while holding our nose. We then ate the starburst and had to guess what color the starburst was. It showed that we use smell and vision to distinguish flavors instead of our tastebuds. We proved this by opening our eyes and looking at the wrapper while still chewing the straburst after our guess. Once we saw the color a explosion of flavor came into our mouth. This would be a cool test if you guys want to try it!!!

My family tried this experiment, and my brother was extremely subject-able to different flavors, confusing apple juice for fruit punch when colored red, and confusing the same apple juice when colored blue, with the blue Hawaiian juice. Also, I wasn't at in any way altered by the colors. Side notes; I have allergies, meaning I might have a more aware tongue to protect me (no research conducted), and he isn't allergic to anything. My younger sibling also thought they all tasted the same, but she confused the taste of Apple juice with Hawaiian Punch, and my other brother who is bigger, but younger by a year confused the flavors for drinks with similar colors. Note, both of the other males in this experiment have very acidic bodies, which may have diminished their taste over time (again no research). I think medical, and age, both contribute to taste as well, to evolutionarily protect the body, and I may not have the resources to test the theory, but you guys most definitely do.

Have you guys every heard of goji berries? In my college sensation and perception class, half of the students had these and the other half had a different kind of dietary pill. The pill blocked our sweet receptors so candy tasted really bitter or gross, while the berries block all of the receptors except for sweet so they were able to suck on lemons and have shots of vinegar and say that they tasted really sweet.

At some point (I don't know if they are still open) there was a restaurant which had the waitstaff wear night vision goggles and the guests ate in complete darkness. An experiment that was done once was where subjects ate foods under a colored light (red) so they couldn't see that the researchers had food colored the food. they were served steak and potatoes and asked to rte the food. after they rated the food the researchers turned on the regular light and the subjects saw that the food was all sorts of purple and blue. for some, before the researchers could ask them to rate the food again they needed a bucket.
