CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Nick Wells (Robert De Niro) discusses his doubts about a robbery with Max (Marlon Brando).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Three generations of method acting giants unite for this crime thriller written by Kario Salem and directed by Frank Oz. Robert De Niro stars as Nick Wells, an aging thief whose specialty is safecracking and who is on the verge of retiring to a life of ease, running his jazz club and romancing his girlfriend Diane (Angela Bassett). But before he can ride off into the sunset, Nick is pressured to do one last job by his mentor and business partner, a flamboyant and extravagant upscale fence named Max (Marlon Brando). Max is plotting the heist of the Montreal Customs House, and he's got a man on the inside, Jackie Teller (Edward Norton), a talented but volatile crook who has managed to ingratiate himself with the facility's staff as a fellow employee suffering from cerebral palsy. Jackie bristles at Nick's interference in "his" score, however, and threatens violence when it seems he's going to be cut out of the action. In the meantime, Nick grows increasingly ill at ease about the operation, as it violates his two most important dictums in thievery: always work alone and never pull a job in your own city. The part of Max in The Score was written specifically for Brando by screenwriter Salem, although the improvisational star and his director Oz reportedly clashed during filming.

Just shows how good Brando still was... I feel sad that he made so few films in his final years, and that they weren’t very high profile movies either.

That was Brando’s choice apparently. He wasn’t interested in being in the Hollywood limelight and on top of a lot of personal problems with his son and daughter caused him to be even more of a recluse. But when he was on screen he dominated every minute!

And the whole entire time, Marlon Brando was reading his lines during the scene. The man was said to have been a master at doing that.
@samkresil6011
@samkresil6011 5 жыл бұрын
But at usual times on a regular basis, Brando never feels the need to READ his lines or even memorise them. He more often felt the need to improve them. I even recently heard he literally drank all the water from the pool in this scene.

@@co2metal Because Brando usually gets his way by adding in something to the film that wasn't scripted, like the cat in the opening scene in The Godfather. Not only he disobey the scripts he`s been given but he always anger the directors he works with by not always following their directions and doing whatever he likes to suite his characters, which I found was typical until it is shown onscreen.

Which was better? Heist with Gene Hackman or The Score? I'd say Heist. Neither film was a 10, or even a 9 or 8. Heist had much better banter and a better 'score' and ending. Heist 7.4, The Score 6.8.
