The Scrap Mechanic Iceberg Explained (The Minecraft Prototype that Became its own Game)

The vibrate cartoony multiplayer sandbox known as Scrap Mechanic lets you build anything your heart desires. But although the video game may appear to be bright and cheerful at the surface, aspects of the game can incredibly unsettling and obscure. Hello, I'm Jotrain and in this video, I will be uncovering the interesting and unknown facts about and found within the game, unknown to most players of Scrap Mechanic.

I think the hanging character may have been the old mechanic at some point but Axolot ultimately decided against adding it. This is of course dependent on whether or not the old mechanic is actually the trader

nah, the physic engine is like one of the least optimised engine I have ever seen. Even a overkill pc won't be enough for SM.

My simplest custom suspension vehicle is like 18 bearings, my most complex computer limited vehicle is 66 bearings, anything over around 90 will become game limited where even a top of the line computer will not be enough to get a high framerate.

im surprised you didnt include the fertiliser and seed containers that are unused but fully functional,even having descriptions also the trader asset is called questgiver in game files,so originally you werent supposed to trade with him,but to complete his quests to get stuff like the spudgun

Oh I probably could of mentioned the fertiliser and seed containers in the cut content entry although they are pretty much the same as the other containers but they can only contain one of each item. In the game files I knew that the trades were label as quests but I had no idea the trader was referred to as a quest giver. Even though in chapter 2 will add actual quests to the game instead of the trades we have now.

I was poking thorough the game code and found a JSON file filled with Quest descriptions. It's all making sense now. Most of the descriptions looked like placeholder text like "Hello. This is a quest description". But there were other Quests such as: Title: "Wood for food" Description: "Give us refined wood blocks and I will give you some blueberry seeds." Title: "This may chip away at you" Description: "Potatoes rarely ketchup until they're cut to size and fried." However my favorite quest was the very last one in the file which was: Title: "Countered Strike" Description: "Terrorists win."

Really great and in-depth description! I knew all of the surface-level easter eggs but not the ones hidden inside the game files, which were extremely intriguing. The unused sound effect ''water_movement_small'' is a Raft egg. It is the sound the shark makes when swimming in the water.

Thanks for your reply, really appreciate the feedback! I took the unused sound effects off the SM leaks website (The community-run leaking website for Scrap Mechanic) the audio file is listed as Unused Audio so that is why I listed it in there. I'll have to check that for myself, I didn't ever remember hearing a water movement sound whenever the Raft Shark moved. Good find though!

NPE_Drone_Shoot is used for the farmbot fertilizer cannon Edit: I think that the water_movement_big and water_movement_small are used for swimming sounds, just slowed down a bit Edit 2: I also found out that the old Indestructible block got replaced not by the cracked concrete block, but by a hidden block called "Framework block", wich is basically just recolored rusted metal

In brackets, it does mention that it could be the Farmbot Pesticide Gun Shoot sound, but It hasn't been confirmed so it's assumed to be unused but you never know. smleaks.com/unused/audio

24:39 just speculation but this if, or was at one point, a default or alternative tile used if world generation threw an error for any reason, the giant red arrow probably serves to let you see worldgen errors at a glance without scrutinizing the entire map, it's likely the product of an annoying issue that involved lots of repetitive testing to tease out and probably cut some time off of those iterations.

It not really that people didn’t notice the interruptions, it just most people (including myself) didn’t listen to what they were saying. It’s only until I looked into the radio on the wiki that I realised the robots were actually talking about and to the mechanic.

I saw the reddit post, and immediately downloaded it. I even extracted the bank file myself to check if anything else was added in a minor update. I fully transcripted all the VO_Straggler files, and am working to peice together a functioning theory about what happened. Fun fact, the hideout in the warehouse is mentioned in the audio file, but right after has a food update that states that he found a box of bananas; which can be seen as the table in the middle of the room, folded.

Yes the concave wedge and license plate have now been implemented into the game but they were originally intended for the farmer vehicles thus I included them.
