They were never that "good" but that was not the point. The brilliance was that they were willing to do it with such vigor. Imagine yourself in the basement "club" of The Masque in 1977 -- below a porno theater in Hollywood. These guys come on stage and YOU ARE THERE. You are a member of an exclusive club, an exclusive time, a phenomenon that will never happen again. Next day, X. Next day, Weirdos. What a time.
