I bought the 10w version without looking at any reviews, I'm very impulsive and have always wanted an engraver/cutter. This machine is awesome. If you can push the extra few sheckles to buy the 10w I would definitely recommend it

Agreed, you can always reduce the power for delicate jobs, but for jobs that require more power, having the more powerful version will save you having to do multiple passes. Enjoy the engraver and post some of the results you manage to achieve!

Great review, I just had mine delivered 12 hours ago, I had it unboxed & connected within 30 minutes, Never had a laser machine before so it was pretty much "suck it and see". But I am REALY impressed by the power and simplicity of it, I will get many hours of FUN using it , One thing i would like to see, Is how to line up the blanks to cut / engrave accurately. But overall VERY impressed.

Yeah, I'm using that graph..... rubber mat thingy, but it means if you adjust the design, you need to re-adjust the placement. I figure the mat will end up with a lot of guide marks on it eventually.

Thanks for the review. It's very helpful. However, I'd like to know if I want to engrave on a wood table or any projects bigger than in the video. How to do that ? Is the plate at the base of the machine removable ?

The base if the machine is actually open. So you can engrave up to 130mm x 130mm. The base plate in my video was completely optional and just sits loose on the open air base.

Noise? About as loud as a normal engraver but with the sound of a powerful fan going. I can work alongside it without it bothering me though. Speed? That really depends on what you're going to be doing. Different jobs, different materials are all going to require different speeds. A 3W version will engrave but some materials may take longer to engrave. Usually the more powerful the laser, the quicker the engraving (especially for jobs requiring more depth as you don't require multiple passes) and you have a cutting option as well (which you don't with less powerful lasers).

Could do.... many engravers use more than one pass. Higher wattage negates the need for repeat passes.

I haven't, I want to though. I think with a 5w it's a case of multiple passes, less with a 10w and even less with a more powerful laser. I imagine scorch marks may be an issue if you don't sand after

That's going to depend on the materials and your skill level. Reflective materials would have to be covered with either a laser engraving paint or a black surface of some sort first. Unlike larger models though, this does not come with a rotator, so your engraving options may be limited or slower for cylindrical objects

Great review, thank you! Would it be possible to engrave a plastic ball with it? Would the height with a diameter of about 35mm (or about 1.4 in) and the rounding of the ball a problem for the iCube?

Dunno, I haven't tried it. I mean, anything with a curved surface could be an issue, you're talking about a further distance from the laser, there's also the curvature, you may have to adjust your design to compensate. However, it could actually work, after all, people can engrave curved surfaces without the use of a roller mechanism, but it's probably just not preferred for the best results.

It depends on if your intending to clean / sand the product afterwards. I would suggest a lower power setting, low speed, multiple passes.

What software did you use and for the business cards or acrylic how do you determine the settings

I used the default software that came with the engraver for testing and it works quite well. It allows you to connect wirelessly and via USB. However I upgraded to Lightburn as I have a number of Laser Engravers at this point and Lightburn seems to support them all. You can also adjust a lot more settings with lightburn. As for settings, that's just trial and error and then keeping a log of what settings worked best for which material.

Im really curious how fine and small it can cut vinyl sticker. I need to cut 10x10 and 15x15 square sticky vinyls I use to etch a symbol into metal. Could it cut like a small flame and a curved 8letter word within that specs ?

I haven't tested cutting with it to be honest, I'm more about engraving. However considering that I've made very deep cuts in both wood and stone with this, as well as engraving my website address on a small keyring, I don't think it will be an issue. It's all about the settings and the materials and finding the proper balance between the two. I've also engraved metal business cards with this too.

For cylindical objects, it's always recommended to have a rotation station to prevent distortion or uneven engraving.

Great review. Is the 10w version better than the 5w version?

The main difference will be speed. If I were to compare a 3W vs a 5W, to do the same job, the 3W would take 2 to 3 times longer compared to the 5W. Then there's the cutting aspect, the lower the power, the more passes it would take to actually cut something (same applies to depth of engraving too). So more power is always an advantage in a lot of ways.

Hey man, love the review, I am almost sold. I am looking to engrave business cards/aluminum versions of trading cards. I am seeing you talk about reflective paint too. Do you think this machine could take blank aluminum cards and cut card designs into them?

That depends on the cards. Most aluminum business cards are painted black, this is so they don't reflect the laser light. So even my own ones are black, once engraved, you wipe them down and you end up with your logo and writing being silver while the rest of the card is black, looks quite nice actually. So yes, this will engrave aluminum business cards. You would only need to paint something with black paint (water based so it washes off) if it's highly reflective or transparent (like glass or a mirrored surface). I've actually been using my sculpfun to engrave rocks! I really do recommend the 5W as a minimum for that though, the 3W just doesn't have the power.

Yeah, It's a lot of fun. The Mobile app is easy to use, I want to try the lightburn software for PC, laserGRBL is ok, but lacks a few features (or I haven't figured out how to use them). Laser Engraving is a lot more fun than you might think and like I said, a great way to create some unique gifts for people. That's my 3rd engraver at this point, I have a small one, medium one and a large one (still in the box). I need more space!

Could do. I've used it to engrave pretty small key chains and it still had legible text. So keyboard key caps (which would use a lot larger font) shouldn't be an issue. It will depend more on materials and laser settings I suspect.

The coupon number SIC50EM is invalid. I wish to make make 10" signs, is it possible to program the left half of the engraving first, then move the sculpfun icube over a predetermined distance to engrave the right half?

No doubt that voucher is well out of date by now. It may be possible to engrave one part at a time, but I wouldn't recommend it, lining it up may just be too hard to get right. Even being off by a mil may not look great. Unless maybe you could construct a form first. There are larger scale units out there that would suit better perhaps.

Size or position? Those are two different things. Resize your project for size. You can do an edge preview to move your media into the proper position.

Will this engrave a logo on stainless steel knife?

Should do, I've never tried it, however with metals (especially reflective metals) you will want to coat the knife first. Many people use 3 coatings of water based black paint. What you don't want to do is reflect the laser back into the emitter or this will cause damage. So usually a black coating on the metal surface first is your best bet.

For me, I used Windows 11 and Lightburn. You can download a free trial version of lightburn, see if it works and if you like it, then you can buy it. I'll have to look up how do connect on Android again, it's been a while and I've had other engravers hooked up in the meantime. However I thought there was a seperate piece of software you had to download to get the engravers IP address first, then punch that into the android app to connect.

there needs to be bracing in the front mine is sagging 1/4 already i braced it with acrylic

@@6creeder688 I haven't had this issue. Then again, once the laser shield is put in place, that actually braces up the engraver anyway (and it also helps the filter system work a lot better).

@@DemonViewLLC when mine came out of the box it was sagging you had to lift the front to get the shield back under it, not that it’s braced it’s fine and engraving is better because the gantry is level and is not bouncing

@@6creeder688 Weird, mine was packed with the foam inside of it containing the laser head and extras, so sagging wasn't an issue. Thinking your may have been damaged in transport. I blame bad glasses.... this time of year, delivery people with poor eyesight often confuse packages with soccer balls it seems. Would love to see some examples of what you've been engraving! Post a video!
