The SCV "collects" LESS Minerals!? Wtf I am in Shock 25 Years too late!
@upmagicАй бұрын
Hey, I have some video proposals: 1. make a vid about magic boxes, why 4 tanks move in a position, but 5 or 6 break it and clump. Why air units need to be selected with something far away like larva, over, trapped probe or scv to be able to stack and micro. Why sometimes one unload command, makes few dropships and shuttles unload at once, and sometimes they clump up and only 1 unit unloads. Why spells like storm or swarm sometimes gets casted in a big area despite you select few templars and click storm command once, and sometimes they clump up, and cast storm in 1 place, similar to the tank. 2. make a vid about unit pathing. Why sometimes when you command unit down the ramp, it goes straight and shortest way, and some [I think it's most know for "dumb" units, like dragoon, goliath, third place is often SCV, but not only, because every unit behaves strangely sometimes to a simple move command!] go to one point near ramp, like a corner or a "pocket" and only after that will continue. so it's path is not straight, but like 2 or 3 lines connected. I think the same concept would apply to reavers and scarab range. Sometimes reaver shoots a scarab outside cannon range, and sometimes it goes inside a cannon range, depends if the reaver shoots horizontally, vertically or at an angle. It would be a great topic i think 3. vid about the move command, which is temporary unreachable [ex. terran is backing to its main to defend a recall, or toss units from a dozen gateways gets bugged] - I mean for example you order a group of 12 siege tanks to go up the ramp, first and maybe second one do go up, but the third one is blocked shortly for previous one, then it goes back and tries to find another way, but eventually goes back to the ramp and goes through it. How much time does it have to pass, so it goes back to original path instead of running around or bugging (and what about if its blocked again, I think it will give some commands about unreachable command and stop completely)? How to optimize it? Many pro players just spam the move command until they go up/down the ramp, is it the most optimal way? 4. video about where unit appears when is completed at a building. I know when you build 9 barracks for example in a tight grid 3x3, the one at middle may not recruit an unit at all! Because it has no space where to appear (i'm not 100% sure if barracks is the case, but factories and gateways for sure). The game will take resources [mins+gas] for unit construction, but it will never appear and you will lose money when too many construction buildings are clumped together! They are hard and ambitious topics, especially no. 2 and 3, but they will be really intresting and informative and target even the most demanding audience. Your videos are amazing, very informative and fun. Im good at this game and play it a lot, yet i still learn something new. You touch very interesting subjects, which many players don't know, others realize it but often don't understand the reasoning idea behind it. I hope this channel will grow. Long live SC:BW

Wow. The repair formula and such make quit a lot of sense, now, with that added context, interesting stuff. As for the most complex unit, though, I'd say it's perhaps a bit of a toss-up between the Devourer, the Queen, and the Carrier, and the Dark Archon, depending on one's focus. Devourers, for example, have a pretty complex debuff mechanic with their corrosive spores that I remember very few casual players ever really understanding, while even those who did would often still wonder at how one was intended to use Devourers, compared to how much more obvious the use-case for Corsairs and Valkyries seemed to be, among BW's new air superiority fighters. Though, perhaps that'd be more interesting to have a dedicated video for comparing the trio, considering the Valkyrie's infamous attack problems and the Corsair's contrasting ubiquity. Queens, on the other hand, have some of the most -unusual- abilities of any Starcraft unit, between the use-case for Ensnare being quite opaque, the unusual value of Neural Parasite, and the way Spawn Broodling is the only thing in BW (as far as I know) that cares about the 'robotic' tag, instead of just the 'mechanical' or 'biological' tags. To say nothing of how incredibly specific infesting command centers ends up being, as an ability. Carriers, meanwhile, have what definitely *felt* like the most impressively complex attacking presence in SC1, given how unusual interceptors are altogether. So theirs is certainly the most complex attacking modus in the game, rivaled a bit by the Reaver's ever-unpredictable aim. And then there's Dark Archons, of course, who definitely have the single most complex ability in the game, with Mind Control, which has all sorts of fringe use-cases like establishing a second supply cap, stealing multiple units via intercepting a loaded dropship, upgrade inheritance, et cetera. To say nothing of the spell itself having such a unique cost, in that it drains not only energy, but also all shields (regardless of whether its energy cost has been modified or removed in the map editor, even). All of which, honestly, would be quite fascinating topics to see covered. Genuinely looks to be an immediately interesting style of video with some great presentation, so I'll be thrilled to see whatever else might be covered, as well-- quite a treat to be surprised by a cool breakdown of some of the game's different stats and mechanics, either way. Very entertaining stuff! ^^
@StarCraftExplainedАй бұрын
@LiliwynMalaphor wow thanks for your feedback. Yeah I've been thinking about covering some of those topics. BW it's a very weird game to analyze, so I'll be taking my time and try to bring most of those units
@MeteCanKarahasanАй бұрын
Devourer acid spore is an attack modifier than a buff. It counts as +1 damage. It seems insignificant due to devourer attack rate, however paired with fast attack units it can double hydralisk damage and triple mutalisk damage which is insane. 10 from grooved spines, 3 from spine upgrade, +9 attack from acid spores and +1 from ensnare(yeah, queen's ensnare stack, too) gives 23 damage. Mutalisks do 9+3, 4, 1 and 10 for each bounce, so 9+3+10, 4+10, 1+10 equalling 47, minus the unit armor each bounce.
@LiliwynMalaphorАй бұрын
@@MeteCanKarahasan I believe that you may have misread me-- I was referring to acid spores as a debuff (a negative effect placed upon the target); not a buff (a positive effect place upon the target). As in, it modifies the effective armor of a unit (the de facto armor value, as opposed to the nominal armor value), rather than individually modifying the attack of every incoming unit. Which works out to the same numerical values for damage, because (Base Damage + Spores) - Armor = Base Damage - (Armor - Spores), so long as armor is allowed into the negatives. Given that code generally allows for negatives, there's literally no reason for the engine to spend three times as much work just to modify each individual attack by having every attack check for spores, then go back to the attacker to increase damage, rather than simple having a constant reduction to the de-facto armor of a unit that can then use the elsewise unmodified damage formula system. Granted, my main proof is just presuming the code to be optimized, but don't forget that acidic spores also have another effect as a debuff, regardless: the fact that they reduce the attack speed of the affected unit(s). And it would be even *more* strange for acid spores to act as both a debuff and an extraneously complex buff, rather than just two debuffs. I'd be happily proven wrong if the code just happens to be exceptionally weird for no reason (or for some specific fringe-case rationale that I just hadn't considered, mind). Plus, the devourer's attack, itself, *also* has some very unusual splash qualities (wherein the debuff seemingly spreads to adjacent units, but not the damage itself, IIRC), along with the unique position of being the game's slowest-attacking unit, by far. Either way, I think we can both agree that the devourer is one heck of a convoluted unit, with some *very* strange mechanics, and that its specific use-case is much more opaque than that of most other BW units. Which definitely makes for an interesting topic! Excuse if that all comes across as an obnoxious 'um actually,' though-- I'm just a major game dev nerd slash starcraft fangirl, so I get -way- too amped up about the cool technical minutiae of how this sorta stuff works. My bad! ^^;

For BC: suppose we we repair from 1 hit point, then the repair cost is 500/(0.9*(500/83)) ~ 92 mineral and gas, much cheaper than its cost. For tank: 50/0.9 ~56 minerals and gas. Vulture: 30/0.9 ~ 33. So does this also extend to real life situations? I.e. should we always repair a used car than to buy a new one?

it makes sense in game mechanics terms but NO sense in-lore: an SCV is basically a construction-gundam except turned up to the same reality breaking levels as the main character of one of the anime's personal unique ludicrously OP unit. the Protoss haven't made anything as universally capable as the SCV with _their_ tech level and they're at the point where they can _and have_ written new universal rules and created their own custom forms of energy. they really are surprisingly combat-capable in lore too: they're _covered_ in maneuvering thrusters making them decently maneuverable despite their bulk and surprisingly fast when they point them all in one direction and they have the sheer durability to just charge in at full speed. once they make impact they have 2 separate nuclear reactors worth of power tools that can all be leveraged for taking things apart just as well as putting them together, the main reason they don't fight much in-lore is because unlike in game they are actually quite expensive with the unit being one of the few things Terrans can't churn out at nearly in-game build time speeds and the pilots for the units being hands down the most skilled -workers- skilled *people* in any given organization, researchers and command staff and elite operatives all included, they can't _quite_ go from starting out naked in the woods straight back to their current tech level just working from memory but they have a thorough enough understanding of all the working principles and everything they need to accomplish along the way to work out the process of building the tools to build the tools to build the tools ad-etcetera on their own in a reasonable timeframe or not to loose any time to speak of if they've got a reference book sitting around open as they work...think the level of BS that is Star Fleet engineers (they have actually backed up their "From Rocks To Replicators!" motto on a few occasions).
