An ideal offseason would look like this: Replace the GM and OC, bringing in Brian Gaine as the new GM from the Bills and one of the recently fired head coaches as the OC. Use the first-round pick to draft Kenneth Grant and finally solidify the NT position. Re-sign Reed on a one-year deal, release Uchenna and Dremont, and invest in a top-tier pass rusher to complement Mafe and Hall. Extend Jones at MLB and maintain the current secondary. With McDonald having a full year, this defense has the potential to be top 5 with all this talent. For the offense, focus on proven talent in free agency for the offensive line-no more one-year deals for aging guards or centers. Sign multi-year contracts with reliable players under 30, particularly for two interior line positions. Release Lockett and draft a WR3 in the second round. Retain Fant at TE and bring in a competent return specialist. Geno Smith is an elite QB who deserves a strong offensive line and a GM who values him.

We need a new OC. Loved at him at UW and JSN flourished this year but are in the bottom end of offensive metrics this year with a good defense. Compare that to last year where we were 10th/11th in offensive EPA but dead last in offensive plays because the defense couldn't get off the field (thank you Clint Hurtt). All this with same turrrrible O-Line.

We need to tear it down. I am one of those fans. I’d rather be a top five draft pick next year. Then 9-8 again. If we do the “fixes” this off season much higher odds that we go 9-8 again then we compete. If we do those fixes we are going to be giving expensive contracts to players who will not deliver the ROI. DK is good but is not game changing. Geno is fine, not worth $50 million a year. K9 is hurt all the time. Grubb doesn’t get the pro game. Honestly I think Hawks fans that think we are going to compete next year are deluding themselves on copium. We are two seasons minimum from competing

@@CoryVB133we only need to tear down half the team. You could possibly fix the offense in two drafts/free season periods. QB is the biggest sticking point as any move is a gamble. However continuing forward the same way we have is just going to be a slow long death. Rather kill it quickly and rebuild. To the other comment Grubb has gotten worse not better this season. I would be more apt to give him another year if he was actually figuring it out. He isn’t, he can come up with plays but not a plan. In the NFL you need a plan, in college plays works.

Going into week 18 Seahawks have zero wins against teams that have clinched a playoff berth. Denver might make it and that would be only win and possibly the meaningless game vs the lambs. Need to get better to be considered a contender. Home record was bad. Let opposing teams and fans take over their stadium.

Why would you want to be a bad team instead of a mid team? This is such an asinine remark that I have heard Brandon make multiple times now. We do not want seasons where we win 3 games. That would be miserable and much further from winning our division than we are now. By Brandon’s logic the Jets, Patriots, Raiders, Titans, Jaguars, Giants, Bears, & Panthers are in better situations than the Seahawks…😂

I appreciate your perspective on this, Cory. With all due respect, I don't think you're representing what I'm saying accurately. The Seahawks have made many moves over the last many years, year by year, that sacrifice tomorrow for today because they believe they were contenders today, when in actuality they weren't, weren't close. A mistake made many times over. I can't believe I have to say this but they're not trying to build a mid team. They're trying to build a contender, right? That's the point. Do you languish in the mid to never build the great? That's at the heart of the argument I'm trying to make, not whatever you're trying to present above - which is what, that I want my team to bad?
@CoryVB133
@CoryVB133 2 күн бұрын
@@TheHawksNest12thman I agree that sacrificing the future for a mid-level to upper mid-level team has been the wrong move by Schneider. I also believe that the franchise has thought they were closer to being a top six team than they actually were. I can see how those two factors can go hand-in-hand. Thus, I may have been more focused on the semantics of your comment than the point that you were trying to get across. This has been a successful season. However, there may still be a significant amount of ground between us and the top six teams in the NFL. This creates a situation that makes big decisions even more difficult.
@ace448
@ace448 2 күн бұрын
Because you will forever remain a mid team. There are only three ways to get substantially better in the NFL. Draft well, recruit free agents well, and trade well. If you are a mid team you can’t really do any of those things. You can’t draft well, because you can’t replace key positions at key times. At least without vastly overpaying to move up. That means you can’t replace other areas. You can’t recruit free agents well because you have money tied up in under preforming players and thus can’t pay top dollar for top talent. The cap can only be messaged so much. Also those bills do come due (cough forty niners cough). Finally you can trade, but this is really hard as most teams don’t give up good pieces to trade. That or you over pay in draft capital to get a top tier talent. This backfires more than it succeeds. Denver lost with Wilson, Browns with Watson, etc. it really only works if the other team either A. Thinks the player is cooked they aren’t B. Player forces the trade. Even then you are selling your future by and large. If you are bad you have the opportunity to rebuild. Your draft capital is more valuable, meaning you can acquire potentially better players or more players. Ironically being bad for a year or two, in a competent organization, gives you the chance to get good.
@CoryVB133
@CoryVB133 2 күн бұрын
@@ace448 If you look at the past 10 years, in general, bottom 5 teams remain in the bottom half of the NFL. Drafting early does not generally skyrocket a team to being a top 6 team in the NFL. This remains true even if you factor in 4 years of maturation time. Look at the bottom 5 teams over the last 4 years and see where the majority of those teams are this season. Draft order by year 2021 - Jags, Jets, 49ers, Falcons, Bengals, Dolphins 2022- Jags, Lions, Texans, Jets, Giants, Panthers 2023 - Panthers, Texans, Texans, Colts, Seahawks (from Denver), Cardinals 2024 - Bears, Commanders, Patriots, Cardinals, Chargers, Giants The vast majority of these teams are still bad. The Lions are the only really “contender” on the list and the guy they drafted (Hutchinson) isn’t even playing this year. Being a top 15 team is much closer to being a “contender” than being a bottom 5 team. Also, just about all of the top teams this year went through some level of being a mid team in the past 5 years. Thus, it is much easier to move from mid to good than from bad to good. Mid to good occurs much more often than bad to good does.
@ace448
@ace448 Күн бұрын
You’ll notice I said good organizations. The Jags are not that, nor are the Jets, or Bears. You will notice, the 49ers, Texans, commanders (after getting rid of the previous owner) are all actually contenders over this period. The commanders are competing for their divide with a rookie QB. Good organizations, and if you have faith in Seattle then you believe we are well run. Use down years to build back. That or they go F dem picks like the Rams. Look if you tell me if we trade all our pick over the next three years. Get Joe Burrow, a league average offensive line. I’d do it, that has only worked what once. Again I’d rather be good the. Anything, but Seattle in the mediocre zone without a lot of hope for the future. Honestly I’d rather Hawks Nest make NEW NEW NEW worst game videos then. I guess we are just meh. Being bad gives you a real chance to improve being meh forever locks you into meh.
