Trouble can happen with any clothing. It tears, gets dirty, puffs and pills appear, shrinks if washed unsuccessfully, and even chewing gum can stick and you can’t get it off. This does not mean that the item should be thrown away immediately.
There are different ways to correct this or that situation.
For example, a hole can be quietly sewn up or embroidery or appliqué can be done in this place. Remove the chewing gum with an ice cube, and pull the puff to the wrong side with a crochet hook.
A sweater that has shrunk after washing can be stretched again. To do this, add hair conditioner to the water and soak the sweater in it for 10 minutes. Then, without squeezing, take it out and lay it on a towel. We blot the excess water with another towel, and stretch the sweater with our hands in different directions until the size returns.
What to do with stretched elastic on the sleeves of a jacket or the bottom of a sweater? Of course, pull it off. After all, the thing is still decent and can be worn.
The elastic band on the jacket is knitted and can be torn off and replaced with a new one.
With jackets and sweaters, everything is different.
I'll show you how to do this using sleeves as an example.
For repairs you will need a thin rubber band.
First, measure the circumference of your hand using a measuring tape. Let's say it's 17 cm.
We thread the elastic into the needle and make a knot at the end. We measure 17 cm from the knot and make a mark with a felt-tip pen.
On the wrong side of the cuff we draw 4 parallel lines at the same distance from each other.
We begin to stitch, grabbing the protruding loops of the elastic band. While sewing, the elastic must be straightened in order to secure it at the end of the row where the 17 cm mark was marked.
In this way we sew all 4 rows.
As a result, the stretched elastic band tightens and takes on its original appearance, and the sweater will last for a long time.
Using this principle, you can tighten the elastic at the bottom of the sweater.
The work is not difficult, even a beginner can handle it.
