When I was playing many years ago, tackle bags were full height and you would instinctively aim for rib cage height... very risky in today's game, The waist-high tackle bags at 5:16 are a genius idea. Owen Farrell would clear these by about 4ft.

Its a good idea but the balance and weight when you tackle them is less realistic. I think bags should still be full size but with a line painted right above where the waist should be so you can aim properly.

I come from Dublin, just finished in one of the big rugby schools couple years back and the difference in funding in the Irish schools is so much higher especially with the very best. @patrickmccutcheon93612 жыл бұрын
Fellow Irish guy here. One obvious difference is that rugby is the national sport in NZ played everywhere and a minority one in Ireland mostly played in private fee paying schools. This means NZ, which has a smaller population, has have a much bigger and more socially diverse population of rugby players. Credit still to these these schools for a conveyer belt of talent that has provided Leinster and Ireland with great players in the professional era. While some Irish players started out playing Gaelic football, imagine what Ireland could achieve if say 10%-20% of those playing Gaelic switched to rugby.

The schools Christchurch, Napier, Southland and St. Peter’s which played against South African school teams this year, i wouldn’t have even considered top 10 schools in NZ this year . Just remember the schools that play at the world schools tournaments from New Zealand have played basically 0 games together as it’s the start of the season for us and it’s also basically a whole new team to the previous year majority 16-17 yr olds. Hamilton boys and Hastings boys next years teams should be good but they’ll both be incredible in 2021 keep an eye out. I will admit this years grey team would have destroyed any school boys rugby team in the world, easily

Billeting is not unique to NZ, the same thing happens in Australia. It's an awesome way for guys/girls from different schools or clubs to get to know each other and a great way for a club or school to reduce the costs involved in playing in away games/tournaments. I'll tell you what though, you'll never play as hard against anyone as you do against the bloke that shared his table or was given food at your table on the night before a game. Usually there's a social gathering where all the players meet and socialize and become friends. Come the game though the person you were billeted with becomes the one guy you have to play harder than.

@bobbybobby30705 жыл бұрын
Oracle agreed! That’s what I love most about rugby - it’s a passion that circumvents finances (cheap game to play) and Numbers (a core group of dedicated individuals can beat a “better team on paper”). SA and NZ boys grew up wanting to be the best - and to be the best either country knew they had to beat the other. I’m a South African but got invited to play for a season with Auckland University U-19 for a season as a kid. Loved it! South African boys playing are born and raised to beat the All Blacks .... NZ boys playing rugby are born and raised with end goal to beat the Boks! Most respected and longest rivalry in world sports (any sport!) - and long May it continue!! Huge respect for our AB opposition always! Want to beat you in the field ... want to have a drink with you after 😉

That's because Union in Oz is still promoted and therefore regarded as a rich man's game. League takes the game to the public schools. Until union change their approach the problem Will persist. In Oz the private school talent that comes through is not enough in numbers and therefore you have to be 110% in your development at all times. Also, you're competing with League and AFL. NZ doesn't have that problem. 99% of boys want to play rugby. In SA we have to compete with soccer which is by and large a black sport but the 4,5million whites all LIVE AND LOVE Union. It's changing fast no in SA though as the black population is fast getting into union. SA is going to be almost unbeatable in 5-10 years provided the country and economy doesn't fall completely apart.

Dude just shut up you're making a fool of us. It just isn't more passionate in Ireland, In New Zealand, rugby is their main sport in Ireland the passion for rugby is interrupted by hurling, gaelic and soccer.

Passion is important in motivation but can lead to red mist incidents. Happily we have a conveyer belt of talent, conditioning, skills and a great coach in Farrell as well.

@@aj-qj4lt See my comment in another reply to this - 600 boys attend Craven week - 20 teams with a squad of 30 each - its like 1%. The Boks won the world cup without any steroids. We'd be happy to remove the 1% that we don't use at senior level anyway if we can access the other 90% of the population. The Irish guy very conveniently glossed over that when claiming we had some sort of advantage - more like a limitation by only scratching the surface. What he also glossed over was that guys like Chilliboy and Grobler got bust in Europe - not in SA which made it a tad bit ironic. Quite rightly the French kept quiet and chose not to chime in. Lastly Colby at 75kg beat four England defenders in the final - whose fault is that - maybe Farrell can learn to use his arms more and not bother about steroids or shoulder bouncing large guys like Esterhuizen!

Don't forget the steroid use in the south auckland schools. It's rough that side. Same like the Cape flats in South Africa. The great JONAH LOMU compared the two places when he visited South Africa.

Where's all the Polynesian boys don't see none. Need some Polynesian boys in this show. Half of the All Blacks team are polynesians. This show is just bunch of white fellas
@bunnychowmuncher5 жыл бұрын
Why would that matter who the players are? I saw quite a few Polynesian blokes.
@danx35045 жыл бұрын
@@bunnychowmuncher yeah not much. This show is like the NBA or NFL but without the black fellas. We need more in this show like a sonny bill, jonah lomu, izzy folau, etc. As we all know the Polynesian boys and other black fellas dominate union. Without them there's no way the All Blacks would have won back to back Rugby WC. If they going to make this kind of show they need to show more person of color not just 2 or 3. Even my mates realise that this show is just bunch of skinny white kids. They need the big blokes big muscles like the Polynesian boys and the black fellas. This show is not the right representation of what rugby union is supposed to be about especially in NZ.
@bunnychowmuncher5 жыл бұрын
@@danx3504 No need for these comments. I'm sure the presenters are portraying the show as it is in real life and those boys are the *actual* First XV players. Imagine if this was a show about the academics at HBHS and some skinny white boy piped up that there are not enough Caucasians because he assumes they dominate academics. But this is a class of very gifted Polynesians who all are there on merit. Pretty shitty thing for someone to say eh bro. Let that sink in. Generalizing and then demanding that generalizing gets portrayed despite what the real situation is not cool. Would you agree?
@danx35045 жыл бұрын
@@bunnychowmuncher I can see wer ur coming from bro. But I'm just speaking what's on my mind what is politically correct. U don't have to agree but I assume u respect what I believe. I just believe the producers of this show show lack of interest when it comes to other people of color. Considering this is in NZ, most Polynesians play rugby and they have that God given size advantage and strong. Former All Black captain Taine Randall said that u need the Polynesian boys and the other black fellas in the All Blacks side, if u don't the All Blacks are a weak team. What he really meant that the white boys are the wheels and the Polynesian boys are the machine.
@bunnychowmuncher5 жыл бұрын
@@danx3504 I hear what you're saying but in 2019 if we speak our minds we get stomped on for being racist. I think the respect must flow in both directions. If a bunch of thin white boys do something on merit they should get respected for it. Otherwise things only flow in one direction and that's not fair. This is 2019 and if we want to create a respectful equal society everyone should abide by the rules of engagement.
