For dreadlocks, maybe try natural fibers like wool or alpaca, get them wet and then rub them between your palms? In knitting, we call this 'spit splicing' and it always results in a slightly fuzzy 'dreadlock' sort of appearance. I think rubbing natural fibers is how you create them in real life, right? I don't have any, so I can't say from personal experience....

I think that would work! I don't do doll customization, but I do have dreadlocks; wetting them before you roll them between your hands (we call it 'palm rolling') is one of the ways people with dreads lock the hairs in place and keep our dreads looking nice. After we roll the new growth, we use a duck clip to keep it in place then dry them with a hair dryer. :)

@@Wolf_Mama Ah, there you go! Real world experience backing my book knowledge. Lol I know a few folks that clip in artificial dreads and they're usually made with wool or alpaca, rolled and then died into fun colors....for all the folks that like the look, but can maybe only wear it on weekends, etc because of job and school limitations, or want a bit more length to their own natural dreadlocks.

She looks amazing! I've never tried Apoxie but have used other epoxylike clays a few times and they are ok I guess. I prefer to use Fimo whenever possible as it only becomes hard after baking.

that's very fair! the only downside to fimo or oven bake clays is if you're using it with doll customising you can't bake the doll in the oven with it XD

My way to make dreadlocks: unravel the yarn strands into the 3 separate pieces and straighten it with a hair straightener or iron just like you would with normal wefts. supper easy!

What I do for dreadlocks is I separate the pieces of yarn, braid it, and then glue the end with a glue-water mixture. Or take the singular strand of undone yarn (Like acrylic yarn bought at a store unraveled) and dunk it in glue, time consuming but in my case, totally worth it. Also, use some brushed yarn wefts for little tufts of normal hair and an easier blending from scalp to hair, and for them sideburns! Hope this helped.

Gosh, she's so pretty! I adore her! The pink is so nice, the dreads are so cute, and my gosh, I just wanna hug her! And can I just say, I love that you have your little stories at the end. It's a big connected universe (that I would love to know more about), and even when it isn't, I just like hearing about it. A lot of the dolls in my collection are ones that exist as characters in a story I'm writing, so it's nice to know I'm not alone.

For dreads: acrylic yarn can be heated, so take 2-3 of the unwoven strands and twist them tightly together, then use a hair straightener to seal the twist in. This gives a sleeker smaller dreaded aesthetic but you can thicken it by adding more strands.

I've accidentally made some relatively okay looking dreadlocks by using that super thick acrylic yarn that makes it 100% easier when making wefts, then submerging the strands in boiling water for a bit (I was trying to dye it, but was unsuccessful) the wet heat made the acrylic hold its shape much better!

I love love love her. The hair method was good but can be easier by getting thicker yarn. Then separating the strands, then incorporate the glue method. Btw they aren't called "dreadlocks", just "locs" will do. Some folks get offended very quickly now a days lol. Stay blessed and Happy Belated Valentine's day.

I do. I do like the natural for really fine details when sculpting, but the white is really great to later sand and carve. I must say those two are my go to for different uses. I also like the apoxie clay in grey. Grey is also pretty nice, same as white. Black stains everything, do not recommend. And super white is a nightmare, really dry looking but also sticks to tools and surfaces a lot more. And doesn’t sculpt nice, much more like air dry clay. I will never buy that again. And for dreads I use strips of wool roving, soak them in soapy water and then roll them so they felt. They look very nice and you can reroot those too. I have a doll with those on my insta if you want to take a look (jane boolittle in my 9 favorites pic) The actual doll is not finished yet but soon will. But I really love how she turned out
