A friend purchased a house in the country complete with a swimming pool (I know, insane especially in Ireland but stil) which they left empty except for whatever water came with the rain. Like that for years until one day he accidentally discovered he had a thriving colony of newts - crested I think but not certain. He promptly turned it into a pond complete with water plants and then - and no idea where they came from - found a couple of fish in there (guesses dropped by a bird but no real idea). He now has a thriving wildlife pond with so many newts that he has dug two more ponds in the grounds for them to breed in in case something goes wrong with the pool, the two fish seem to have bred because there are now a lot more and he has acquired a couple of ducks who arrived and never left plus some others who come and go depending on the season. Great video and this is the sort of pond I prefer. The pool still looks like a swimming pool despite all the water plants and wildlife, this looks like a proper pond (think village green style pond)

Loving the channel, i am the fishery officer at my local club and trying to learn more on fishery management, we had a similar ptoblem with one of our small "stock" ponds,we netted the pool and had a jcb come in to dredge it,then did exactly what you have done with aerator, we use a charles austen et pump,the pool is a 1/3 acre so needed a lot bigger pump than you used,we have now a thriving pool with happy fish and good water quality,keep the videos coming,loving it

It is very satisfying. Sometimes we wish we could see the full impact of our work sooner, but we work to help the ecosystem better itself over time also which creates a longer lasting effect and this takes time

Not really. It practically doubled in a day. It doesn’t like water movement. And there are some fish that will eat it (goldfish love it!)
@jamesshamley6577 Жыл бұрын
Two or three ducks will remove it all very fast. Best biocontrol, but remove the ducks after they are done or they will be a nuisance while fishing and poop everywhere.
@adriansmith7058 Жыл бұрын
Hi there I don't think a jcb will do it for you. You will need a 360 machine. Because the jcb will just get stuck. Just saying as I've done this thing before on a old lake in Wiltshire which was a bit bigger than your one. But good luck with what you're doing.
