This has always been one of my favourite stories even since I was a child. The BBC always knew how to adapt them for plays. Excellent. I used to have this on cassette and played it so often. Thank you for putting it up. I'm so grateful xx

This is such a beautiful story. The premise that connecting with nature can make us feel better is thankfully widely accepted today. I would recommend to anyone feeling sad to look around their garden, or take a slow walk in the park and stop to look at the flowers, the birds, and even the insects. If you really do stop to smell the roses, you will notice that nature truly is magical.

Fascinatingly, when you scratch the surface of this one it seems to owe a little something to Jane Eyre, but also a lot to the ancient myth of the Fisher King - of a land sickened as its king is wounded, and of an innocent who heals both without even knowing they're doing it... It's definitely a story that connects to everything you say. I think I once heard it said that Charles Darwin learned as much about zoology from paying attention to the life in his garden as he did from travelling all the way to the Galapagos Islands...
