when people call the show stupid because the names like 'poppa poutine' and 'jingle jangle' it annoys me because, that's the point, it's a homage to the type of names in the archie comics. like lets be real the archie comics have the stupidest names i've ever seen but that's part of it's whimsicality and fun. and the show doesn't take itself too seriously either so what's the problem?
@user-yk1yk9sd8v5 жыл бұрын
also like you said in the video i appreciate how it doesn't treat itself like some life-changing show. an example is when madelaine did a mini sexual assault psa after what happened to cheryl in season 2, and she admitted that it was highly dramatised and unrealistic while also speaking out about an important issue.

Quarantine gave me time to finally watch riverdale and i actually like it. The cinematography and different take on dialogues in episode 1 hooked me up😂. When i started watching season 3, i've felt it gotten a bit weird with all the GnG and Gargoyle King stuff going on and I started to read all the hate. But in the end of that season, everything made sense. How, it's never an actual "mythical-thing-become-real" to begin with but only an illusion playing in the minds of those whose taking drugs that's gotten a huge production. It's not really "trash" of a show like some people say it is. The show have nice cinematography, talented actors, it doesn't end a storyline with a loose end and has great character developments. The dialogue has a mix of humor, sarcasm and references. The era which the show really take place is confusing. It's wierd and sometimes confusing which makes it addicting to watch. Its sad how some people gave up on the show and never gave it a second chance. It's not a movie where all your questions can be answered 30 minutes later. You gotta see the end to fully understand the story. Its a really nice show and it have people who really love it. It's understandable if you want to give your opinion but giving an opinion is different than plain talking shit about something. Everything have its own limitation.

Holy shit, I'm self aware now. I went into Riverdale for a murder mystery and I completely missed the point of season 2 and 3. One question, how do you know it's on purpose? Other than the moments you have labelled as self-aware? To be fair, that's why I've always struggled with any sort of analysis of art. We always fill in the blanks for creators we have never spoken to. I mean, your reasoning is 'A writer couldn't do that and think they're being serious'. It's kind of just...your opinion. Not a fact-based analysis. Like, there are no quotes from the writers or creators that indicate they're just meme-ing around.
@RobyFN2169dtf5 жыл бұрын
I have never claimed to know what the writers or show runners actually doing. Everything on my channel (and the channels of many others) are opinion-based. I think Riverdale is aware of their weirdness, that’s how I have interpreted the show.

Lines in the show like when Kevin said "Mr I'm weird i'm a weirdo said I love you?" to Betty and Jughead's reaction to the name of the drug 'jingle jangle' are one of the many quotes where the show is making fun of themselves. I picked up on these quotes easily and kinda realised that it was just harmless fun.

The creators shouldn't have to go out of their way to tell you their intentions. You should read their intentions from the work they have created, cuz thats what they are speaking to us through. I'm sorry, I really have to disagree with you. riverdale seems completely unaware of how absurd it is, in my eyes. the acting is straight up ridiculous which could be intentional or could not be. If everything about Riverdale is intentional (which I doubt), then they've figured out a formula that works. The weirdness of it is getting worse though, and that is going to push viewers away. People here from day one are the same people who watched because they liked the eeriness of the show. Maybe the writers foresaw that they couldn't keep up a solid narrative, so they tried to push the show in a different direction? Either way, there are too many factors that keeps Riverdale from being actually watchable.

I liked season 1, hated season 2 but have loved season 3 and 4 I love the ridiculous plots about evil board games and private schools, it’s very scooby doo like and comic like For me what brings it down is the dialogue and all the emphasis on Hiram lodge and whatever his plans are, hirams involvement ruins the show imo

I get what you're saying and I completely agree with you about Season 1 and the first few episodes of Season 2. I enjoyed the slow motion walks set to a slowed down popular song and everything that came out of Cheryl's mouth and Dark!Betty but I think there has to be a certain amount of grounded-ness with this type of show and to me, it's just gone off the rails. But I totally understand watching it as a so bad it's good kind of thing. It is very much that type of show.

the way the writers feel about this video is probably similar to the way I feel after handing in a shit essay and my teacher surprisingly (and luckily) thinks it's good

I was just thinking this the other day. I think the show reflects the comic books in a unique way and I like it! The ridiculousness it portrays is exactly like a comic book, jumping from one story line and set of characters to another. The casting of the show is also good in my opinion, all the actors portray their characters well. The show may look like a mess, but in my opinion its a carefully thought out mess, a show attempting to stay firmly grounded to its comic book origins whilst providing a classic Friday night binge worthy teen drama. Edit: The only thing I wish it could cut out is some of the rare but hard cringe worthy moments! Self-aware or not they can still pull you out of the scene in an instant.

The Flash Season 4 started off very aware to the fact that it basically became a parody of itself. Then they stopped and I stopped watching.
