Since 2014's Neighbors, Zac Efron's career has been... not so good. In this video, I discuss why Efron needs to pick better projects, follow Matthew McConaughey, and kickstart the Efronaissance.

Robert Pattinson made so much money out of those four twilight movies he's been able to only work on whatever the fuck he wants for as long as he's done. Same thing with Daniel Radcliffe, who's mostly only done random weird movies since the Harry Potter franchise ended. And probably the only reason why Pattison is Batman now is because he's running out of cash to keep doing that. Efron on the other hand has been doing fun movies with who seems to be his personal friends in exotic locations, and has been producing tv shows about what he seems to care about (he produced and starred in an educational animated tv show for fb and has produced his docuseries for Netflix). The only reason why Zac Efron doesn't get "better roles" is because he probably doesn't give a fuck about that (and honestly, who can blame him). A lot of actors "just don't care" until they eventually do (or they just "don't care forever" which is also very valid). Efron probably doesn't give a fuck yet.

You talked about how Matthew broke out of the "type casting circle" *but* what *Margot Robbie* did was even more brilliant: she broke the "type casting circle" by never entering it. After The Wolf of Wallstreet she became huge and said she was flooded with offers of similair roles, some of them huge movies. But she refused them all despite what her agents said because she KNEW she'd end up in the type casting curse if she accepted any of them. So for 2-3 years she kept her head down being in mostly indie movies, all very different parts to prove she had the range to play anyone in any genre. Then BOOM came back in 2016 as Harley Quinn, Jane from Tarzan, created her own production company controlling which parts she would get, did I, Tonya which got Oscar noms and now she's one of Hollywoods biggest stars!

It's harder to break typecasting than it is to not fall into it the first place.
@ItsBritneyBitch1
@ItsBritneyBitch1 3 жыл бұрын
@@moonriver7439 yeah that's why it's smarter to avoid falling into it, because when you're in it, it's very hard to break out. But when actors are young and new to the industry, most don't know what they're doing and trust their agents and then fall in this trap unfortunetly.

I do genuinely feel bad for Fox based on what I have read about her getting blacklisted and whatnot, and listening to her talk in interviews and everything reveals that she is significantly more intelligent than anyone giver her credit for. But tbh I don't really think her career would be in that different of a place if she wasn't blacklisted. She is genuinely bad in everything I've seen her in outside of Jennifer's Body. Not tryna hate on her I just don't really get this wave of people thinking she's a great actress all of a sudden.
@victoriarosa1762
@victoriarosa1762 3 жыл бұрын
@@haydengallina5554 the thing is, we are not saying that Megan is the next Meryl Streep, but that she is not given the kind of roles that would help her grow as an actress. Whether it was because of being typecast or from being blacklisted for speaking up about said typecasting. imo, i also don´t think she is expetacular at acting but i see wasted potential in every role she is in. Most of male actors are given the chance time and time again of doing shitty movies and then "growing out" of them and getting better projects, women not so much.
@maydoubled
@maydoubled 3 жыл бұрын
@@haydengallina5554 I liked her in Passion Play. She played a shrinking violet type so I think that shows she has range. For me, it's more about her not having diverse enough roles to expand upon that. In New Girl, she played the hot girl. In Above The Shadows, she played the hot ex. Same with This is 40, Friends with Kids, Jonah Hex, etc.

Victoria Rosa I agree with that, I can’t really think of any actresses that have climbed out of that rabbit hole outside of maybe Kristen Stewart, who definitely still has her fair share of haters. Everyone knows actresses get fucked over by Hollywood, and I wouldn’t mind seeing Megan in some good roles for a change, I just think there are other actresses who have disappeared over the years that are more deserving.

The first time I realized Zac Efron could act and hold his own against heavy-hitter actors was The Paperboy. He was great and believable. But he was also overly sexualized. I guess that's the burden of being hot. He's funny and can do drama, so I agree it's on him and his agents to find projects of his caliber. And I think he's trying. I remember a story about him hanging out with Leonardo DiCaprio, who is the biggest kid star to grow up to be a leading man, and still he didn't blow up. I hope people catch on and soon!

I binged some of his movies (Charlie St. Cloud, paperboy, extremely wicked, 17 again and at any price I found allowed him to show more) and found he’s an incredibly talented and skilled actor, he’s always been so sexualised and a lot of people can’t see past his attractiveness and appeal therefor they won’t give him the depth he is more than capable of pulling off which is sad since he has a lot more to offer than just his physical appearance and it’s knack for getting views, he’s objectified for sure and I think that’s where the problem lies and why he hasn’t been taken as seriously to have a bigger range of roles although the has had some and did incredibly, I think I would love to have seen him do more indie films too to show his range and horror films too would be interesting. I love him and am a big fan, he definitely doesn’t disappoint when he is given a good role, he seems really hardworking and skilled like even watching him act when he was a kid, he has talent and believability for sure, as well as being able to sing really beautifully and he was the one pushing for his voice to be heard on the last 2 hsm movies, his body for baywatch, learning sailing for St. Cloud like he isn’t lazy talent and really is a triple threat and more who picks up skills quick which shows just how much he probably wants that for himself also and enjoys roles outside what he’s known for. Just the curse of being beautiful and charming got him and he gets used for that, I love him though, big fan of him and his acting

Efron really impressed me in Charlie St. Cloud because his depiction of grief (just absolutely shutting down emotionally and failing to find healthy coping mechanisms) was the most relatable shit ever. Genuinely love Zac Efron and always will. I think he is super talented as well. I wonder what your thoughts on Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile are? Through the video it seems you weren’t to keen on it? But I really loved it and his performance. Great video btw!!

Zac has so much potential. I used to think he was about to make it big, but disappointed. He's now approaching 34 and still, and has never so far been able to show to actually be part of an actual film. A project that actually matter and that isn't relient on dumb jokes and naked people to bring money. It's sad, he used to me my favorite actor.

Another issue he has is script picking. If you notice in each and every one of the films. The script usually tends to be the problem and why the movie falls flat. See 'At Any Price' for example. Zac and Dennis Quaid did a fantastic job. Zac literally transformed in that role. The movie would've been a real gem, problem is, the plot went no where and it ended up falling apart and was utterly pointless. He use to say he enjoyed picking the "weird" roles, but "weird" doesn't mean good. If he learns to say no, and aim for strong scripts and well written characters, his career will revolutionize. I agree as well, he is one of the most talented actors out there, right now. He just never had a chance to showcase his abilities in his craft like others have. I can see him one day pulling a Tom Cruise and landing a role like 'Jerry Maguire' where he can showcase his talent and spin the character the way he wants too like Tom did but first he will have to say no, and select the right scripts.
