I read The Secret History about 5 years ago and I’m probably due for a reread. There was quite a bit I liked about it but I remember thinking it was too drawn out in the last half.

There are passages that feel redundant across the second half, but I was surprised at how different it seemed on a reread. I hope you’re having a great weekend, Jenn. Cheers, Jack

Quite a few, including Hard Rain Falling (Don Carpenter), Wish Her Safe at Home (Stephen Benatar), Ride a Cockhorse (Raymond Kennedy), We Think the World of You (J. R. Ackerley) and loads more. When I used to live abroad, I was able to pick them up in second-hand book stores on the cheap. Now that I'm living in the west of Ireland, they are more pricey to get from Amazon and such. They're not so common in the few second-hand stores we have here. No shortage of Joyce, Wilde and Yeats though.@@ramblingraconteur1616

Great review of the book. I admit it was grueling to get through when I first read it. The atmosphere is miserable and the people have few redeeming qualities to latch onto. I couldn’t identify and side with a single character. I didn’t connect with it. Basically I hated it. But now that I’m an adult I should probably read it again and give it another chance.
