I so get Gary’s bartering concept. Back in the day that sense of community working hand in hand was pretty common place. For instance I rapidly have found myself immobile due to severe arthritis. I’m starting the knee replacement process in October. In the meantime, my grass still needs mowing and weed whacking done. Neither of I can do until I am healed from surgery. However, I’m a very good seamstress and can mend just about any textile item. I also knit and crochet. I would be more than happy to hem, mend anything needed so long as I get my yard work done too! I’m in New York so just about everything is taxed, avoiding taxes is a bonus for sure!

There is a little stand near me that a young girl has, it is a free will donation for veggies. She has a little story about helping her Papa in the garden and that any monies collected for veggies goes in her bank account for her future.

Not only the milk, but the cream from fresh milk is amazing. If you let Mazy make some jar butter from fresh cream, or fresh whipped cream to top a hot slice of pie, she will become a fan.

My uncle used to have milk cows and sell it to the people that bottled it and sell it in the stores. So he had to meet certain standards. He had to wash the udders and milk then then take the milk to the parlor and put it into big milk cans and keep it all cold till he could get it out for the man to take it to town. My aunt would take a gallon or two and skim the cream off the top and make butter. It was the best. The biggest problem was making sure that everything was clean so that the milk didn’t get contaminated…. As it wasn’t pasteurized and could really make people sick if the chain of sanitation was broken at any point.

Great seeing you both early this morning. I just want to tell you both that I do admire the work & the energy you put in on your kids, which is how it should be. You might consider a Mini Jerseys: Produce 1-4 gallons of milk per day High butterfat content (4-6%) Gentle temperament Good for families needing smaller quantities of milk. A full size Jersey will produce an average of about 7 gallons a day. Since you don’t drink much milk, you might consider selling the raw milk. The only thing, which you probably already know, all transactions will have to take place on the farm, you can’t deliver it to the customer.

Also, I suggest a Dexter Mini cow. They require less acreage, produce about 1.5 gallons a day, and they are tolerant of our heat but also have a nice winter coat. Bonus: they are excellent for meat as well, and can even be trained to draft.

InCity of Milwaukee they have Way specific rules before you can get a permit an "permission" from neighbors as not to object. Specs for size and position of coop. Allow for up to FOUR hens and ZERO roosters. I live in a rather larger apartment complex for seniors. Don't think management would be for any of it. 😛🤣
