@xPetu 3:21 Another reason why you would like to recall in the position you're in, is that 2/3 of the experience per wave (non-cannon wave) come from the melee minions. Even though there were 9 casters, that's just a wave worth of minions lost in net xp. Net loss is actually negligible as long as you achieve good recall timers per wave-state and backing so you can strong-side your own lane-dominance. Same can be said for xp/kill and the scaling over levels, if you chart it in a graph, that's probably the easiest way to spot why this in fact is a good back. Killing a level 5 opponent will award xp gains similar to that of a wave, meaning you also maintain a similar level, while also achieving an item-lead over Garen.

@@jannezbeda8278 I believe the difference is the point of the teleport is to use the imbalance that was created up until this point to snowball the imbalance to the rest of the map while allowing the Garen to regain some of his deficit. It's a higher risk, higher reward mechanic. This is also why it's so important for people like bot lane to understand that while it sucks to occasionally get Shen ulted or ganked if you can know it's coming and back off and not die then even if it sucks momentarily for you think of it as a good thing that you just wasted an ult and a full minute of shen's time.

the recall was wrong early ... and no you don't need to farm the wave you just need to keep walking to the middle bush while the wave follows you and then you recall and that was the wave meets you coming wave and freezes... so you get to come back to that wave and secondlt that wave kills your wave so garen looses the experience

At 4.47 into the game (top right timer), garen has 5s to respawn. Add 4s of TP + 7s walking from tower to wave, and that means he'd arrive at 5.03 to the wave. Garen only got there so late (5.25) because he didn't TP, he didn't even need to and didn't lose anything. In the video, we see shen press B at 4.40 and get back to lane at 5.17. At 4.56 into the game, shen's wave reaches the other, that would be where the lane would've stayed frozen and when shen would recall. He could even recall a few seconds earlier, around 4.52, if he had pulled ennemy wave further towards garen's tower, so that both waves get to walk for these few seconds, to meet near shen's tower, while he's backing. So let's say he did that, he would back at 4.52 instead of 4.40, so +12s later, and hence, get in lane at 5.29 instead of 5.17, but with his wave frozen near his tower, forcing garen's TP. If garen arrives at 5.03 to the wave since he used TP, he can't contest shen's back at 4.52 which ends at 5.00. Garen then has to clear the wave, which he can't do so eazely bcs it's under tower, so he'd lose too much Hp from tower for it, having just got back to lane. He either : - tanks 3 tower shots to crash the wave and gets in a predicament from HP deficit, where he can't contest shen's prio due to that - or waits for the next wave to get there to clear the whole thing, with minions. Shen's next wave arrives at 5.27, and it's a cannon wave. Remember, shen arrives in lane at 5.29 if he freezes the wave. Garen can't clear a cannon wave in 2s, he can't even kill 3 CS in that time, so the lane should stay frozen. Either way, if he pulls and freezes the wave before reset, shen gets a better reset, with more XP, more gold, a more favorable lanestate when back to lane, and forces garen's TP. I also get that it's not that eazy an assessement to make, in game, there's not a lot of margin (3s), and if you fuck up that hard assessement, your lane's fucked. The death timers also recently changed, so that might also cloud his judgement with the timers that he's used to. It's honestly too much information to process in real time, and the only way to really make that assessement is through habits built through experience, you never crunch the numbers in game like i did here, and it's really hard to reach a point of accuracy where you can confidently say that X choice is perfectly safe in a situation such as in the video. There's always room for incertitudes and doubt, and I believe XPetu had a more pessimistic assessement, and just wanted to stay on the safe side, just in case, even if it's like a 10% chance of it going wrong, considering how much he'd lose if it does go wrong. Basically not leaving room for a coinflip, even a favorable one, when not sure. Backseating when you can pause and rewind is always much easier than when you're in the middle of the action and have to process all the information in real time. You're also just watching without actively thinking about the game, while XPetu is thinking about a 100 things that don't even cross your mind, while you can focus on that only 1 thing that you believe he did wrong.

Petu, great video, but I have to correct you on something. Couldn't find the time stamp right now, but you said Q gives attack speed when hitting tower. I had to check on LoL wiki and doesn't, only if you hit enemy champion. Using it alone is just costing you energy and puts passive shield on cd. Only useful if you have sheen proc.

@@mintyCS He prioritized starving Garen over feeding himself throughout the entire laning phase, because he knows he'll do fine himself regardless. Garen had pretty much his entire kit up, including teleport. So he needed to get out and back in as soon as possible.

I think the spear and deadmans combo was working on the tower, because with minimal deadmans it was 138 at full stacks spear and 136 at half stacks, but the dmg being amplified would just be the 20~ coming from the deadmans so only a couple points of dmg. Would still be interesting to test it more but I think it was working.

At 3:08 I don'y entirely agree with your decision to recall. What I would have done is to trim the ennemy wave so that the minion count is only slightly superior ( 1 or 2 more for red) and then recall. This way the ennemy wave is still pushing but not as fast. It would let the subsequent ally minion wave to reach before the ennemy minions crash in the tower allowing you to go back and get full experience and gold

He could stay, clear all minions and recall at 3:50. Garen would get nothing in return because by the time garen gets in lane, the next cannon wave arrives which would take longer to push. Even if garen got a plate, I would never give up 17 minions for that. Garen would better freeze that cannon wave and deny it, but it is still worth to give up a cannon wave for 17 minions he could take. Cannon wave is key here, but I understand you cannot calculate everything in the moment so he chose a safe option.

Hi Petu, Regarding the Deadman proc on Tower, I saw from even before Shojin, that the stacks will not deal any additional damage (or maybe did deal but consistent damage regardless of amount of stacks) if its not 100.. its a bug? i guess cuz deadman proc on non-tower enemies works fine, ie; the dmg will scale based on amt of stacks.
